About a week ag I posted pictures from the auction I had won for a nickel plated model 27 no dash, made in 1960. I went to the local FFL on Tuesday evening about 7:30 to have the gun transferred. By 9:00, the approval had still not come through so sadly, I took these pictures, fingerprints and all, and left.

The guy said he would text me in the morning as to the status of the background check. The next day at 9:00 I got the word I was cleared to take the gun and made arrangements to get it at 1pm
Picked it up at 12:55 and rushed home to clean it up. First off I removed the K frame target grips and grabbed the beat up magnas off my 1955 Highway Patrolman.
After a good wipe down I went on the deck and took a few pictures.

It still could use a good fluff & buff with some Mothers and Ren-Wax but it’s still fairly presentable. Will be looking for a nicer set of Magnas once the wallet recovers but I am extremely happy with it. The pinned blued ramp and blade were something that was eliminated by 1961-62 with the introduction of the 27-2. At that point the ramp was forged as part of the barrel with just the blade being pinned in place, and those were all nickel plated with the gun.
Absolutely no end shake, and locks up like like a bank vault. Will be shooting it soon

Sure pretty, but my preference with the N-frames is definitely the target grips over the magnas (with K-frame .357s as well).

I haven't seen any good specimens of nickeled K or N frames in a while. Very nice 27 -- and a great score finding one in that barrel length!.

Wow! Sweet piece! Cost don't matter when it comes to something like that. :)

I had kind of a dual budget. One top end price for a nice, probably blued M27-2, but was willing to go an extra $100 for something a little extra nice, or including the box or Target & Magna grips or a gun prior to the 27-2 version. Did not in my wildest dreams think I would end up with a gun this nice. Someone bid with 12 minutes left which reset the clock. We weren't quite to my top end plus $100 price yet, but it was looking like I would have to go over budget or quit, since my bid had to beat his by $25.00. I ended up going $10 over my absolute max and knew that was it if my bid wasn't high enough to beat his maximum. It would have been so easy to get carried away

With a gun as nice as that one is, it would be totally understandable if you got carried away!

We're all glad you made the winning bid on a beautiful S&W Model 27 and thanks for sharing it with us!
