What's the most fun gun you have ever fired

All of you that say they enjoy the M60 must not have had to carry the PIG all day every day. I spent a good portion of my time as an E1 through E4 having the M60 as my primary weapon. I flew a few times as a door gunner on the old Hueys too. They were still in service with Army Reserve units that supported active duty units in 1991.

The Mk19 automatic grenade launcher was always fun too. The Mk19 and M2 were never fun when you had to carry them from the arms room down to the motor pool though. We still had reckless rifles (recoilless rifles) in the combat engineer battalion I was assigned to from Jan 92 to Dec 94. We did occasionally take the reckless rifles out to the range to shoot. And I always enjoyed working with explosives..... making big objects into little objects :D . I worked with a crusty old master sergeant at Ft Devens that watched Caddy Shack way too many times. But it was always fun to go to the demo range with him.
Yeah I second the carrying those weapons were not fun at all. I was once on a 12 mile ruck and everytime someone fell out we had to split up their gear and carry it. Regardless to say we were in deep sand that day most of the ruck and at the finish I had my ruck 60 lbs. 4 extra m16's a tripod and was holding a strap on another ruck that my buddy was holding the other side of in edition to him having a 50 cal. Reciever.. I wish I had a phone back then to take pics of my feet I counted 35 blisters total. Good times! Pt the next day was a blast.lol

M14 on full auto in basic training
I wonder how those weapons would have been with 3 shot burst. I have an m1a loaded (heavier barrel) and it has very little recoil for a 308 I can spot my own shots at 600yds. So it makes me wonder if they would have made some as squad automatic weapons with heavy barrels how that would went.

I was glad when I went from airborne/light infantry units to mechanized units. At least I got to ride in a M113 with my M60 mounted to the pintle on the back end of the M113.

Yeah what always got me was there was army standard then airborne standard. Seemed like everywhere I went first thing I was told was here we have a higher standard......son of :cuss:

I'm going to go a different way here and mention an airgun. Brocock Compatto in .177. It's pre-charged pneumatic. I pump it up to 3,000 psi with a special high pressure pump, and then I've got about 30 shots. Deadly on small game out to 50 yards. It has a nice moderator on the end, so it's near silent. (much quieter than .22 subsonics out of a locked action) I keep the squirrels out of my back yard (and my attic and bird feeders) with it; I've gotten 5 in the past two days. Neighbors are unaware.

If I have to pick a firearm, here's my list of most fun:
  1. Marlin 60 - This is their tube-fed, semi-auto .22LR. Holds 17 rounds. Slimmer, more accurate and more reliable than the 10/22 I had. This one was my uncle's former neighbor, a farmer who kept it jammed between his tractor's fender and the seat for shooting dogs and coyotes on his property. It has a nice rash rubbed through the finish of the shoulder stock at one point. It's a pain to clean, being a semi-auto and being accustomed to cheap ammo...
  2. Ruger Mk. II Target model. (22LR) This was my first gun. It has been accurate and reliable, until last week when the bolt stop pin broke. It's waiting for the part now. I have the Hogue grip on it and switch back and forth between the very good adjustable open sight and a red dot.
  3. Ruger Redhawk in 44 Mag. I don't like it with full power magnum loads, but with lighter magnums or a heavy 44 Special +P. My handloads with the light bullets are the best. Like the Mk. II, this one is very accurate and easy to shoot. I took it deer hunting the one time I went out. I saw a deer at about 35 yards. I carefully cocked the hammer, which caused the deer to immediately take flight. Froze my butt off that day, too. I don't think I'll ever shoot this gun DA, which is a shame, as its DA is pretty good. (better than the later Super Redhawk model) If it had been available, I probably would have gotten a Bisley Blackhawk in .44 Mag or maybe even 45 Colt.
I have had both guns Redhawks and blackhawk....love the look of the Blackhawk but it does not handle recoil near as well as the super Redhawks does same load in Blackhawk stings my hand

Fired so many fun guns in my life that it's hard to decide. How about the most memorable ones? Got to put a few rounds of 50 BMG through an AR-50, ( IIRC the name correctly), bolt gun a few years back. Then there was the M-79 grenade launcher many years back in infantry training regiment that I thought of as just a real big bore, break open single shot. Along with the 3.5 inch rocket launcher, AKA the bazooka.
The Classic WW2 Bazooka! I wish I could. I heard you can go to Thailand, and they have facilities that you pay to shoot RPG’s and Frags

That gun has been in service since 2001, used on countless details and warrant services by several of our teams besides myself. :) It got the nicks, scratches and dings from hard, but honest, use.

Stay safe.
a little camo spray paint job will do it wonders

Mk-211 - I do believe that's it. I was alone at my club's rifle range when an SUV backed in and when I saw the guy open the rear of it and pull one of those things out I was in shock. I had an M-1 Garand on the bench and was loading it at the time and got so distracted that I gave myself my first (so far), case of "M-1" Thumb". The guy was firing off some G.I. ammo he had procured just to get some reloadable brass. Forgot how many rounds he let me fire but it was great and not abusive, recoil wise. Probably a combination of that big, effective looking muzzle brake and the 20-something pound weight of the rifle, according to him. Didn't have my camera with me that day and back then my flip phone didn't take pictures. Wish I had some pictures of it.

There are two types of people at the range when they see my .50. Those that want to shoot it and those that are terrified of shooting it.:p

I've had guys that were 6'5", 300 pounds of heeeck NO about shooting it! Even after watching an 11 yo girl that weighed 50 pounds soaking wet shoot it. Wish I could find the pic, the smile on her face said it all.

@Odd Job

I would love to drop one of those Magpul D50 mags in that and pull the trigger until it stops!

Wish I never sold my Galil AR in .308.

A SIG P229 in 9mm. First gun I ever owned. Sure, I've shot some more "fun" guns since, but nothing can replace that feeling.

M14 on full auto in basic training
I carried an M14 in basic training at Fort Lewis in 1969 as did everyone in every company in that cycle. But they had the fun switch neutered so no full auto.

Most fun gun was an original Gatling in .45-70 at the Winter Range Cowboy Action shoot at the Ben Avery Range north of Phoenix. I think it was 25 round for $25 and worth every penny.

Most fun gun I own is my 1896 Winchester Model 1892 rifle in .25-20. Also about a buck a round these days because I don't reload that caliber.

Probably my Ruger 10-22 with folding stock,, 25 rnd mags, and a True Glo red dot site. That thing can really rock and roll at a range or in the field and take out paper, cans, and reactive targets!

After that it's my Ruger MKII 22/45, 4 in bbl. It can really make those little reactive targets bounce around 10 or 11 times! Wish they made a larger mag for it

Combat qualified at Grafenwoehr Germany 3 times 1966-68. Gunner aboard Charlie 24 M60A1. Over the course of 2 years I sent over 350 105 rounds down range and thousands of 7.62 through the coax MG. Even qualified with the .50 from the commanders cupola. ( That was the most fun ). Lot of competition between tank gunners. Plus the overwhelming threat of Soviet aggression in Czechoslovakia kept us on our toes. Used to hug the gun sights so close with eye pads turned up out of the way, I looked like a raccoon.
