I am fixing to go pick up a new Colt King Cobra 4" target .357 from my LGS.

Are there any markings to identify if it's a newer CZ made? Gun store didn't know, and Google is drawing a blank.

I bought it on a whim. It was nice and shiny. Didn't really research it. I got it to shoot, I know it's not a collector piece and no buyers remorse. Just hoping it's CZ quality and was curious.

I know, I know. Pics when I get home this evening.

If it was made after February 11th of 2021, it’s a CZolt.

Honestly, who cares? My Anaconda is a CZolt, probably means it’s a better build quality.

Just be aware that the wood grips are terrible, especially when shooting.357, they are quite slippery.

I just wish that Colt/CZ would bring back blued revolvers.
They could, but it would be disappointing......the new eco-friendly bluing chemicals cant match the deep hues of even regular production vintage Colts, let alone Royal Blue as used on the Python and a few others....not to mention the hand polishing techniques which are largely lost at this point.
Rugers recent blued revolver finishes were "meh" at best and the "Classic" series Smiths weren't much better.
If the bluing we see on Colt's current 1911s is what we can expect on the revolvers, Ill pass.

The stainless guns look great, IMO.

If you want to get down to the nitty gritty details, it's more accurate to say that the same holding company that owns CZ also owns Colt.

That company is the "Colt CZ Group SE".

At this point, I've seen no evidence to suggest that the purchase of Colt has had any effect, either positive or negative, on the quality of Colt production.

So the same group that owns Dan Wesson also owns Colt? Are Colt revolvers that desired that you'd purposely tank production of Dan Wesson revolvers in order to buy Colt?

Where did you hear that DW revolver production is going to be tanked?

Well yes, I believe Colt revolvers are much more desirable vs DW.

Very interesting. The holding company has said they want to make use of Colt's distribution capability in the U.S. and to capitalize on the fact that the two companies have product lines that don't strongly compete against each other. Sounds like someone decided that both companies making revolvers didn't make good financial sense. I'm not sure I agree with that decision, but then I have no access to sales figures for the revolvers from either company.

Got to do 6 rounds. Shoots nice. I can actually see the front sight.

Chambers are tight, but functional. I just gave a quick wipe, and checked bore. Going to give it a good scrubbing and try more tomorrow.

In a sense, they have.
A member on the Colt Forum ordered a new Python from the Colt Custom Shop with a gloss DLC finish..........

Because of the limited demand for blued revolvers, Colt may go this route to satisfy a limited demand, either as Limited Editions, distributor offerings, or Custom Shop special orders.

Back in the 80's the American gun buyer decided he was happy with black autos, but wanted stainless steel revolvers.
Most gun makers responded to the market, and it's hard to find a traditional blued revolver now.

Wow, that is gorgeous!

This has started something....I am now on a revolver kick again..

Need a 3 incher...

I believe CZ killed off the DW revolvers before the sell. My local store says the snake guns typically don't last 1 week.

I have a new 3" KC. If you look on the right side of the receiver, there's one of those small, square optically-read patterns that you read with a scanner. Can't remember what you call them. It's unobtrusive, but it's there. I seriously doubt one of the "old" KCs have that little item....

Btw, you will thoroughly enjoy your new revolver. It's like a shiny little jewel and it makes you feel really good when you shoot it. :)

Bingo. This exactly.

DW quit making revolvers a decade ago TTBOMK. DW has been making excellent quality 1911's only. They're at 100% max capacity, and their product flys off the shelf.

And they're sitting on a prototype that's even better than a 1911. DW's success has them in a pickle. It's far too stupid to make anything other than quick selling high end 1911's. Ride that train as long as they can. When sales gets slow, bring out the DWX, or a ww1 milspec maybe.

If CZ brings Colt up to higher quality, I'll be in line to get one. I'm missing a 1911 milspec in my quiver.

If I was CZ though, I'd be shipping brand new CNC's to Colt for an Alien copy.

What's wrong with Colt revolvers current quality or you only referring to Colt 1911s? Colt 1911s and AR15s seem to be in high demand as well. I do not own either, but from what I seen, the Colt name and history alone seems to keep them selling and very popular. I am fine with a plain ol' Ruger SR1911 or RIA 1911 and PSA or Aero AR15, soI have no dog in the fight.
