How much should a box of 20 rounds of plinking ammo in 6.5 Creedmoor go for?

Thanks.

$35-40 seems to be current market price, basically looking for $1.50-2/round for any non-5.56/non-7.62x39/non-7.62x51/non-surplus centerfire cartridge plinking ammo. Been a while since we’ve seen $1/round for anything.

I'm seeing $35-$40 for non-exotic rounds. Quite pricey to me. Really, if you want to plink with high-power centerfire rounds, .308 is the way to go right now. I'm finding it around $12-$20 a box for FMJ, the majority of that is steel case.

I picked up Norma Match grade Golden Target 143 gr. for a tad under $25.00 per box ,as I needed cases as I had NO dies at the time to alter other cases . I considered that a reasonable cost ,especially for getting Norma Brass . Brass case prices are RIDICULOUS if you ask Me .

35-45 for me too usually.

Sometimes our retailers will have them in the 25 to $30 range, but it's pretty rare these days.

Well heads up for what it's worth ; Those Norma Golden Target 143's that were under $25.00 ,just went to $39.49 from the same vendor
and the Whitetail load are near the same :(

Error on My part ,they're No longer available and Whitetail is $24.99 or $ 34.?? ,as I went back and read the email flyer ,which obviously has a misprint . Carry on .

Just as an FYI, I tried 3 different factory ammo's in my my Tikka. Just getting brass so I can roll my own. Win Whitetail was awful. 3-4 inch spread at 100'. Aguila was much better, but still hard to keep it under 2". The Hornady Match was very good, easy sub-MOA groups. All 140gr.

I do the same thing with a new gun if factory is available, try different brands and different weights, and measure with a chrono to see how fast they are really going. Then load my own as close to that as possible for starters, and work from there.

Thing is to save at least one round of each so you can measure those good ones. I guess you could measure them all before your finger hit the bang button, but that would make too much sense for me, I am always in a hurry to start making noise and poking holes in paper.

I shoot Hornady American Whitetail so that is my frame of reference. Current pricing is $35/box locally which I’ll pass on. A year ago when it finally hit the shelves here it was $32, and 2 years ago it was frequently on sale bogo (50% off the second box) at $22/box or $33 for 2 boxes ($16.50/box).

My home State only recently included a late deer season for bottleneck so I’ve no real reason to shoot 6.5 apart from practice, which is to say I’ve not chosen to shoot either of mine in some time. With a tick over 400 rounds put up, I’ll simply sit it out until prices see a steep decline.

Should be $18.00 a box, like before everything hot nuts. Not much for 6.5 CM around here.

What sticks in my mind is that FGMM in 168 and 175 gr flavors could be had for something like $14 - $16 per box of twenty (frequent sales on either Primary Arms or PSA), while 6.5mm Creedmoor 140 gr (Match, not junker) could be had elsewhere for something like a dollar a round during the same period...

Gone are those times!

I can usually find 308 cheaper than Creedmoor, but it’s usually apples to oranges. If I compare match quality ammo, prices are much closer. Pre-pandemic, Creedmoor was usually cheaper. Those days are probably gone.

When I purchased my first Creedmoor Walmart had 60rnd boxes of Winchester white box for less than $40 and once found them for $30, I used them to blast holes and have fun at 100 and 200yrds, 300yrds they started opening up and forget 600, I'm still using the brass and I store my reloads in the boxes. Recently I was at my LGS an and it was $38-$45 a box of 20, more than 30-06, 270 and 243, why I don't know.

I’ve found 7mm-08 for under $25 a box. Seemed odd it’s cheaper than other more common rounds. Maybe it was mismarked, I should go back I guess.

When you can find the components, buy them and roll your own. I have 100 6.5C brass sitting in the loading tray right now ready to be completed.
