Because There Are No Consequences

What can I do about this? I do not go into the city

That only works until it doesn’t.

Let me explain. I live in a small town, a real small town, we have no police because we have no mayor, no city council, we are not incorporated. I’ve been told the population for the entire zip code is around 2,300, the town itself would be a few hundred. We don’t know for sure because the last census that listed us as a town was in 1870.

About a month ago the service station nearest to me had a cop get knocked out and pistol whipped by a guy that snuck up behind him because he knew he had a warrant out for him.

I hear about a murder every 2-3 months, normally drug related. This week a friend called me tell me to keep a look out for a 10x6 trailer with feed spreader on in that had been stolen out his yard. It’s really getting bad around here, and we definitely ain’t a city.

The last time our sheriff ran EVERY deputy endorsed his opponent, he won anyway. Why? He’s told the deputies not to arrest people unless they have to and when the main gig in town is illegal drug activity that’s the kind of guy they want. I work with guy who’s son went to the ATM at said gas station, then got followed out and a guy hoped in his passenger seat and pulled a gun on him then told him to drive him to someone’s house. The kid drove into a parked vehicle so he’d have time to jump out and run off.
eventually the deputy showed up and upon a description of the guy knew who he was, confirmed with a mug shot. A couple weeks later they called and asked for an update. They actually told him they hadn’t been looking for the guy. Of course how would you with only 2 deputies, on good days.

So what do I do? I can drive 17 miles to a different gas station but sooner or later their want be anywhere else to go. We better be arming up and learning how to use defend ourselves. And I know people that are scared to do that because they fear getting killed by the family/friends of the attacker. That’s not a unrealistic fear, in a town this small, with virtually no law enforcement and a large criminal population, it has happened before.

I guess I’m just saying we can’t avoid everywhere, and it seems that’s where we are headed as a society.

While followers of this forum are students of situational awareness and may speculate on ways to avoid violent confrontations, life dictates that we still go to work, get groceries, buy gas and see the doctor. The reality that we can't avoid every potentially dangerous situation and that law enforcement can be as vulnerable as the average person may be the lesson learned.

Regarding that place, I follow advice frequently offered here- avoidance. I have successfully avoided ny for my entire life. I also avoid any place where I am not wanted or welcome. I wish others would do the same.

Something to consider for those in rural areas where local law enforcement is either extremely weak -or non-existent... You can always reach out to state level law enforcement - and be reasonably certain they're well aware of parts of their state that are pretty much lawless. Find the right unit and you just might be surprised at the outcome... This from a retired cop (south Florida) who grew up in north Alabama (Huntsville...).

I can completely understand a choice to put up with bad situations since you have to live there - but most states will have some pretty good state level enforcement capabilities that just might jump on a chance to deal with corrupt out of the way parts of their state...

I agree.
I also know that if anyone other than a moderator posted this thread, it would be immediately closed and deleted.
Benefits of being on top in a two class system I guess.
Regards topic my thoughts are always stand your ground and make change. Ultimately there is nowhere to hide. Bad policies are like cancer, they are either stopped or they spread. Another thing is people from other locations/states can still lobby if they arent constituents. Donate, email, show support, let people know they aint alone.

I spent my entire career working in rural South Central Illinois. I worked plenty of accidents and motorist assists on the interstate for the ISP because their closest trooper was 4 counties away. The state police are spread pretty thin in a lot of places. We lived by the mutual aid agreement here. 20 plus minute response times were common even with the mutual aid agreements. A lot of the small towns don't have 24 hour coverage so if you call 911 you might get a deputy sheriff, a trooper or an officer from a neighboring town depending on the seriousness of the call.

You missed me.
I don't think he wasn't talking about self defense law "stand your ground ". I believe he was talking about staying in your state and working for change instead of fleeing to another state
My thoughts on this are: at some point you realize you are outnumbered and fighting a loosing battle. So I don't blame anyone who wants to leave NY and move to TN, just don't try to change TN and make it like NY.

Opening Post was about criminals stealing guns from police in NYC.
Back in the 1950s and 1960s I heard street talk about "creeping a cop" to get a gun: sneaking up behind a cop (an actual constable on foot patrol), snatching his gun from his holster and running. So it has long been a source of crime guns, and probably the inspiration for retention holsters.

Yes thats what I was inferring. I dont judge anyone btw wherever they want to move. Also suggested supporting folks in other regions where they are having trouble. Call, email, donate, support lobbying in regions not your own, add likes to videos about their states issues, whatever. Let them know they arent alone.

When you have "authorities" who decline to prosecute criminal actions, WE need to make these perps learn that they are risking their lives in the their pursuits. It may be necessary that those of us who can go "J-J-E" (Judge-Jury-Executioner) and make THEM pay the price instead of US. Once their numbers decrease, crime stats will follow as there will be fewer of them doing said "activities".

That post is permanent and searchable, an it could be used as evidence that goes to state of mid in the event of a serious use of force incident.

If you do this there's a good chance you're going to find yourself facing criminal charges.

Absolutely. They are hurting in armed forces recruiting just as bad as cops. Demonize a job enough and take away the benefits, no one will want to do it.
what benefits are being taken away?

Gas is now the same price on base as off, retirement is now blended vise full retirement being optional. Housing is private and being sued across the nation for poor living conditions and more...

from what I have been told, military housing has often been less than ideal whether privately run or by the military. At least the private providers can be sued.

I am not sure why the government should be subsidising gasoline costs for its employees.

I don't know much about the military retirement system these days, but it was seemingly more generous when military personnel were being paid a lot less. I am not seeing how paying people more up front is bad. just about any thing that gets changed will have winners and losers. And few people like change anyway.

Who says? If they are attempting to do an "armed robbery" on you, it would be self-defense. Granted, you may be harassed by some ambitious SJW type of prosecutor and it may cost you but it can still put the "fear" back in some of these miscreants.
