Caliber War Thread

I am not going to war over handgun calibers. I will shoot what I like and don't want flack about it plus I really don't care what anyone thinks of my choices. :D

In semi-autos I have a lot 9mm.s (love my Hi-Power) and a few .45 ACPs but I must admit that I am kind of partial to a Colt Commander in .38 Super that I have.

It's hard to argue with your logic. For me it's a .22 revolver for fun and teaching new people to shoot, then a .38 revolver for knocking the hell out of cans or snakes, but a little 9mm for concealed carry when I go to a dangerous place like a big city.

308 is just as good as 30-06.
7mm-08 is just as good as 308.
6.5 CM is better? (haha) than 7mm-08.
243 is just as good as 6.5 CM.
223 is just as good as 243
22 Mag is just as good as 22LR.

I have heard all of these statements before.

Therefore, 22LR is just as good as 30-06.

Flipping the script...

I shoot more 22lr than anything, then 38 special after that.

My favorite larger cartridge is definitely 45acp. In regular loads it shoots a slug about the same size and speed as 44 special and 45colt. The recoil is NBD and it puts large holes in things. It's a very common cartridge: easy to find and relatively inexpensive for its size. The thing I like the best is that I have a couple of nice revolvers that shoot 45acp, as well as some nice service autos. A range trip with my 625 and 1911 is always a good day and a lot of fun.

You call the 9mm old and boring...isn't the .38 S&W Special a bit older yet?
What? 1898 versus 1902? Four years mean a lot in grade school, but less at over 120.
Since you brought it up, I think the relative weights of the bullets are substantial. Whereas I do not have much use for the 158 grain RNL 'halt or I'll dent your paint' round, I do think the 158 grain SWCHP at around 900 fps is much better for defensive use.

38-40
Creampuff factory loads and magnum 10mm type loads if you hand load.

357/44 Bain & Davis
2000 fps with a 158 gr bullet out of a pistol? Yes please!

I also like 10mm, 38 special, 44 special and magnum, and 45 Colt.

I've shot about 300 rounds of 38 ACP in the last month. It's pretty much the best of .38 Special and 9mm combined into one round. The case is longer than that tiny 9mm case but not obnoxiously long like .38 Special with the pressure about splitting the difference between the 2. It's kind of hard to find guns for it but the guns that are out there are pretty cool. I recently picked up a 1902 military model and have had a 1903 pocket hammer for a while. The 1902 Military is very accurate and is easier to hit steel with than most 9mm guns being made today. The sights are tiny, but they say "aim small, miss small".

Everyone has their opinions be they good - bad - or indifferent! :)! I'm guilty of that. Currently I shoot mostly 9X19 mm and 45ACP. Past the mid point of my seventh decade I'm no looking for new horizons.

As Uncle Herbivore says, "Opinions are like a certain part of the human anatomy. Everyone has one, they all stink, and if someone seems interested in yours, you better hope he's a proctologist."

I think the 2mm Kolibri is all you need. So small they won’t even know they’re hit until it’s too late. Plus, think how many rounds would fit in a service size pistol?
28.8 rounds would fit in an 8rd 45acp 1911 mag. the rim of the kolibri is 3.6mm and 45acp is 12.2mm so you can fit 3.6 kolibri rounds in the same space as 1 45acp round. Oh and 54 kolibri rounds would fit in a 15rd 45acp 1911 mag!

What a bunch of terrible cartridges!

22 LR - A really expensive air rifle.

25 acp - The reloadable version of the .22 LR.

32 acp - The cartridge of James Bond, who doesn't exist. Just like the purpose of this round.

380 acp - That one time John Browning got drunk.

9mm - Well, the real story here is that ERTYFGHKBHBKLJ... Sorry, dozed off there and faceplanted the keyboard. That happens when you think too hard about the 9mm.

10mm - Basically the 6.5 Manbun in handgun cartridge form. I swear, one more Razor Dobbs video shows up and I am out of here.

40 - The 10mm, except for people who are afraid of guns.

45 acp - Yeah, well, they do make a .46 now, so...

:neener::evil::neener:

This morning while I was at WalMart a young lady was shopping and walking towards me. She was wearing a jersey with 44 on the front of it. To myself I thought, " what a great caliber ".
Every time i see someone talking FSBs i dont think Front Sight Base, but rather Full Size Bronco. 20 years of owning one tends to bias the brain lol

I was into 10mm before 10mm was cool... Does that mean i have to grow a manbun now? Good thing i dont own anything creedmoor :barf:

You mean you don't have a manbun already?! The guy at the store told me I couldn't buy my G20 until I grew a manbun. Took me 6 months!

I definitely found my way to the 10mm after it was cool, which was partly why it took me so long. I kept trying to find a semi-auto that measured up to the .357 Magnum.

.40S&W? Nope.
.45acp? Nope, but slower.
9mm? Bwahahahaha!!!
.357 Sig? Well kinda...sorta..

10mm? Oh yeah, there it is!

Now if I could just get rid of this pesky manbun that makes all my hats fit funny...

I can't have a manbun because my family shaved my hair off (true story).

But I have shot a 380 before.

I was just curious, you know... curious about those sorts of things. Some guys are curious.

And everyone else was doing it.

I looked at the ammo. It was kind of like a 9mm whose mother didn't have enough milk for it. I'd seen more useless things before, but they always had a suit and tie on.

The round was so weak that when I fired the pistol, it recoiled forward. My wrist had been sprained, but the recoil was so weak that my wrist got better.

The bullet hit the target, bounced off without tearing the paper, got tangled up in my friend's beard, and fell into his drink. It was so tiny and inconsequential that he had trouble finding it in his shot glass.

In Germany it was called 9mm kurz, because people would "kurz" out loud in annoyance if a projectile hit them.

In Italy it was called 9mm "corto", because that means "short", and only tiny short people like Thumbelina could possibly be harmed by such an inadequate cartridge.
