I'm getting a EC9s real soon. Anyone have an opinion on this pistol? I don' own a 9 mm. Never have owned a 9mm. Are they easy shooting?

easy to shoot, no, snappy. Especially your carry loads. Good trigger, smooth through the whole squeeze.

if you pocket carry, get a pocket holster. but you will have print issues in certain clothing. I recommend putting a old iphone on top of it. It just looks like your carrying a cell phone in your pocket. It breaks the outline

I would strongly carry a extra mag

I wouldn’t recommend putting anything in the same pocket as a carry pistol. Definitely not good practice. It you are concerned with printing, wear different pants.

Sorry, have not shot one. I have no opinion other than it’s a Ruger and if it had any issues, company customer service is excellent.

I have the slightly fancier LC9s. The looong light DA is manageable, I wish I had a revolver so easy.
It is light so it does kick a bit; I do not put in long practice sessions. I once shot a "style" match with it and had about all the fun I could stand.
The sloped slide heel lets it come out of the pocket easier than a Glock 43.

Have had one since introduction. Just a cheaper LC9S with sights integral with slide. Snappy. Mine has been 100% reliable but I've only put about 250 rounds through it using five different mags.
Too big for pocket carry for me. Thin IWB carry. Mine shoots 124 grain to POA at 25 yards, though a few inches left.
Don't know what they sell for now but should be under $300. Mine does car duty since I upped to a Max9.

a old Iphone in top doesn’t slow my draw or get in the way. I’ve practice with many times. My goal is hidden in plan sight.

The EC9s is a solid gun that is snappy to shoot. I use one as my EDC for a year. I always used the pinky extension on the mags. Switched to a Ruger Max9.

My wife bought me the LC9s as soon as they came out. It went back to Ruger because the mags ejected uncommanded. Has been flawless since.

I don't notice the sharper recoil until I time my secondary shots. In other words.... it takes a moment longer to get back on target. The recoil isn't unpleasant.

Mine was pocket carried constantly until I bought a Shield Plus a few months ago. Yeah, if a " gun person" was looking at my pockets he/she may have noticed. In that case they were looking for something other than a gun.

I pocket carried in every pair of pants I own save one pair of jeans. But I'm not into form-fitting, glued-to-your-body clothes. It's why I rarely wear those jeans. I don't try to be noticed, therefore I'm not. Your overall dress is more important than what's in your pocket.

And I'll second an earlier post... NEVER put anything else in a pocket with a gun.

Shoot it, if you can. It's completely up to your ergos.

I got a EC9s from rural king at a great price this spring. Shoots soft for such a small 9mm. You know good and well you touched off the round but it’s not painful. My target of opportunity each time I have shot the gun has been a soda can… and at anywhere from 5 to 10 yards it has been pretty consistently 70% hit ratio slow fire aimed. Firing quickly it’s been considerably less but the can has danced around a whole bunch from all of the shots that just barely missed low.

On holsters, I didn’t find anything I was willing to pay for that seemed to meet my criteria for a pocket holster. For my job I really need deep concealment even though all of my customers know I carry and they don’t care, THEIR customers might. I ended up making my own pocket holster and I have been happier with it than I have with any other holster I have ever had for any gun. Period. I did a write-up of building the holster if your interested. Just know that im a hack leatherworker and it still turned out incredibly well and I have since made another one for one of my customers that may have been better than mine.

Overall, im still a revolver guy, but this pistol is a game changer for me. Good enough trigger that is reminiscent of a DA revolver, plenty accurate for a defensive gun, cheap enough to not worry about beating it up, powerful enough… maybe not perfect because the grip is a tad small for me and capacity isn’t 12+1 like some similar sized guns but still it’s plenty good and I don’t intend to let mine go.

I have the LC9s Pro which is basically the same gun with small differences. I wouldn't recommend the EC9s.

  1. The build quality feels cheap compared to others in its class.
  2. The slide finish isn't durable, the slide is alloy steel (not stainless steel like is on higher quality pistols), so it will look well worn faster and will be more prone to rust.
  3. It has a thumb safety AND a magazine disconnect safety. A magazine disconnect safety will not allow you to fire the gun when the magazine isn't all the way inserted which is a very unfavorable feature that's not included on most modern semiautos.
  4. The sights are milled into the slide, so what you see is what you get. You don't even have the option to upgrade the sights in the future if you wanted to.
  5. Last but not least, the EC9s only ships with one 7 round magazine when the industry standard is to at the very least to ship with 2 mags. Factory EC9s mags are around $30 +/-.
I'd get a Gen 1 or Gen 2 S&W Shield or Walther PPS M2. Better aftermarket support, much better build quality, no mag disconnect safety, the sights can be upgraded, ships with an 7 and 8 round magazine, the slide is Melonited stainless steel which is much more durable, and they can be found for close to the same price as a EC9s plus an extra mag. The build quality on Taurus pistols are currently better nowadays. The EC9s build quality reminds me of the Kel Tec PF9 which is also not all that great.

P.S. My LC9s Pro was a dudd out the box. Ruger's quality has started to go down hill. Less than a box of 50 through the gun and the slide is well worn. It should still look like a brand new gun but doesn't.

If all you can afford right now is $250 or so on a gun to get you through until you can afford better, it will do. If you have a little more disposable funds, I think you'll be much happier with a M&P Shield, Walther PPS M2, or even a Springfield XDS. The new high capacity Taurus Gx4 is even in the $330 range.

Good for you. But doubt you’d ever find a reputable instructor telling folks to put anything in the same pocket as a pocket handgun. Doubt you’d find one to agree with you also. It’s just not a safe practice.

I hear ya, not telling anybody to do it. it just works for me in my situation

I have the older version, LC9s pro. It has the same snappy recoil of any small 9mm polymer pistol. It's too big for me to carry comfortably in pants pockets, but it's a nice little belt pistol or coat pocket pistol. Mine has been reliable and the trigger is very nice.

For the money the EC9s is a good gun the corners they cut to save money don't affect function, the biggest drawback to me would be the sights. I had a LC9s pro and loved it, but fell for the draw of the extra rounds a Hellkitty has.

My brother has an EC9s and I have an LC9s Pro. Both have been flawless. It was my cold weather pocket carry for a two years.

As others have stated the slide finish is not great. My Keltec P32 got pocket carried 3x as much an the Ruger, and it still looks good. The LC9s looke well worn.

Once I picked up a SIG P365 the Ruger spent a lot of time in the safe, until my oldest son get his CCW permit. Now it's his EDC.

My son has a LC9sPro. Essentially an EC9s. Had the slide and trigger coated (Gun-Kote) because of rust issues. The blueing was not durable at all. No complaints on the gun’s function at all. Great shooter, easy to carry.

Points naturally. We did not find the recoil objectionable. Would recommend.
