Any gun I bring to the range is gonna get hot.

Scorched casing clean up in the tumbler.

I haven't yet started picking up range brass except my own. I got a deal on several hundred rounds of mixed LP brass, de-primed, cleaned, for under $6 per 100.

I loaded 4.0 of TG with a 200gr LSWC (coated) Brazos bullet. It shot very well, no FTE and very accurate out of my ATI Commander .45acp.

.45 acp ... 200 gr lead

I was planning on loading light ... full-size S&W auto 4.6 inch and do want a decent burn and reliable function
Are you getting any leading?

FWIW, 18 BHN MBC 200 gr SWC (IDP #1) with light 4.0 gr charge of Red Dot/Promo produces very light recoil, reliably cycle slides of various 1911s/M&P45/PT145 and produce 2" groups at 25 yards.

And if your barrel is oversized, you can use softer 12 BHN MBC 200 gr SWC (Bullseye #1) with same powder charge and softer alloy will bump/expand the base sufficiently to produce consistent enough chamber pressures to reduce leading and produce accuracy.

No leading yet. Gun is an M&P 2.0 full size.
Bullet is SNS .452 LFN 200 gr.

If you haven’t already done so, I would suggest you look in some of the “off brand” cases to see if they are “stepped” inside. I recall running across some with similar names to A-ammo or maybe Amerc. The step reduces internal volume which can do a number on peak pressure.

I have seen those in 9mm but not .45ACP. Has anyone seen the setback step in .45’s too?
Just one more thing to be on the lookout for. :(

I forgot we were talking about 45 ACP. I've only seen the stepped cases in 9mm myself. I've not seen any A-ammo or Amerc 45 ACP cases, so I may have spoken out of turn.

Whelp, 4.2 gr gave about 760 fps with the 200 gr bullet.

Surprisingly the gun ran!

But it and 4.4 gr (avg 787 fps) threw powder on my arms and occasionally a casing hit me in the face. 4.5 gr (789) seemed a little better.

Recoil with 4.5 gr didn't feel anymore than 4.2 gr.

I've ran 4.8 gr (847) and it felt mild, too. 4.9 and 5.0 (901) felt a little snappier.

My next big batch will be 4.7 gr and I think I'll stick to that.

Made some corrections & added a few measured velocities in my previous post.

Also, new production Win. 185 gr Silvertip gave an Avg. of 903 fps, ES 39, SD 15 from my 4.6 in S&W. Temperature about 80 deg. It was very accurate, too. (5 rds under 3 inches at 25 yds free hand. Pistol has a red dot sight)
