Cabela's unbelievable

Cabelas went down hill after they expanded out of Nebraska, I grew up there and still hunt there. Lived in KC for 20 years and only went to the Cabelas there 2-3 times. Last gun I bought was out here in Colorado Springs at Bass Pro, have a few more to buy from there. Spending my Cabelas cash so its basically free, but still hurts for how pricey they are.

Sportsmans warehouse 20 miles in one direction and 20 miles in the other is a Cabalas and PSA, Academy. When i'm down that way i skip the Cabalas
Sportsman's in Idaho Falls (about 85 miles from here) is within a block of Cabela's. While we were in Idaho Falls yesterday, we went to Cabela's instead of Sportsman's because my wife knew they had a shawl/hoodie type thing that she wanted to buy for our daughter for Christmas. However, we drove clear across town from Cabela's to go to our favorite "local" gun store so that I could order the .44 Special revolver I've been wanting. ;)

When I first got my NJ ID card and first pistol permit (1972) I bought a new Colt Govt. model .45 for about $130.00 but had to return it as the gun store sold it to me by mistake (I was 18 not 21). When I was old enough (21) I bought a Colt Combat Nickel Commander for $167.00. Then sold it off and got a blue one for 176.00 a couple years later, they are selling for 900.00+ on GB today.

Been a Cabelas buyer for over 20 years. First one was in Hamburg, PA. Nice drive up from Philly area. Decent prices. Good library. Great people. Then we moved to Texas and I was 45 minutes away from the Austin store. Great selection, shelves always filled, library was a place your jaw dropped on the nice guns there. I got their credit card and used my points to buy guns, a safe, and loads of ammo. Range was close by, as well as some great BBQ. About the time I left here, they sold it to Bass Pro. And it went downhill fast.

In AZ, Glendale, over an hour away, there is a store. No restaurant. No fudge. No selection. Empty shelves. It was a dud. Bass Pro is closer, but same thing.

However, competition is great here. Scheels will open here in 23/24. Sportsman Warehouse is in Mesa and Chandler. Forums and stores on the internet are great resources. Heck, even Walmart got its ammo back.

Unless Cabelas splits from Bass Pro, then both will go down the tubes.
