I have a Mk2 Ruger Standard. Anyone know if I can buy a different barrel for it that comes threaded? A friend of mine has almost completed the process to get a couple silencers and we're trying to figure out a way to test them with the least investment. One of them is .22 LR specific, but neither of us has a threaded .22 ... gonna hit the LGS tomorrow, was thinking about it and this question popped into my head.

They are screwed into the reciever with a very tight interference fit and partially machined in place. Its not something that is easily user replaceable. You can get a complete replacement upper receiver though with a threaded barrel. You will probably want to do that anyway so that you can put a red dot or taller sights on it. The regular sights probably won't see over the suppressor.

I’m in the same process! Silencers coming, so I’m shopping

I bought a Mark 4 years ago and 3 barrels upper 2 years ago. I’m sending the Barrels to Silencers Central to have chopped down to 1.5” and 2.5”

Check out Vauquasan (spell wrong) for threaded barrels, usually $50 to $100 bucks. But they need to be FFL transfer

The barrel doesn't come out. The upper is the "gun" the serialized part.

I'm running a paclite https://grabagun.com/tac-pac-lite-4-5-tb-black.html

Bought it a few years ago and had to convince the dummy at grabagun that the upper was serialized and they shouldn't send it straight to me. Then had to come convince the dealer it was serialized and needed to be transferred and not just handed to me.

I have a Standard and a Mk II, which are both great guns. But the hassle of switching the barrels on the earlier marks (1-3) is why I bought a Mk IV to add to the stable. Takes about 30 seconds to swap the 10” for a 5.5” or a 5.5” with a red dot. (Both 5.5” were Volquartsen purchases for 30 bucks each + transfer fees.)

Stay safe.

I'll be honest, I'm astounded nobody (except vq) has made 3rd party frames for the Ruger mk series guns. With the number of cheap vq uppers, aftermarket paclite uppers etc sold, seems like there would be a market for them. Or just build a mkii from non-oem parts like with the ar, g19, 10/22.

and the parts out there are expensive! Cheaper to find a Mark 4 on sale, and start factory fresh

poking around, to me - just to shoot .22 LR supressed the easiest and most likely option is to pick up one of the inexpensive .22 LR rifles from any of the major makers. I thought I'd be able to find an upper for a MK2, but not so much and the prices on them are double or more what I paid for mine a few years ago, so - probably just going to find a 10/22 or really any of the inexpensive rifles that come threaded SR. Some year maybe I'll find another pistol, but for now seems like a rifle/carbine is the way to go. Think I'd rather shoot steel with a supressor from distance anyways, seems more entertaining to me. I have the shorter tapered barrel on my Ruger and don't necessarily want to mess with it. The idea of sending out a rifle to be threaded, and that costing more than half of just getting a new one, doesn't make sense to me, so - if I get one it will probably just be a basic .22 LR, that comes ready for what we're looking to do.

personally, I found that I shot my 22 pistol suppressed more than the rifle. That was because the shot barrel kept bulk ammo subsonic, and it was 1/2 the price to shoot compared to the rifle.
