I have a S&W 36. Looking at getting a Tyler T Grip to add some size. Do they really work? I see they are super easy to install, they look as if they will do what I am wanting to do. They also look pretty sturdy.

They work great at filling up your hand without adding bulk to the grip size. They are simple to install. You just loosen the grip panels. The Tyler has a soft copper shim that slides between the grip panels and frame. You just slip the Tyler on and retighten the screw.

Yes they work. Yes they are easy to install. No they are not still being made, at least not by a reputable company last I heard.

Tyler is still in business. Yes, they had a problem or two around 10 years ago, but I believe it's all been corrected. I ordered trigger shoe 3 or 4 years ago, and had no trouble getting it.

My Tyler T-Grip adapter is going on close to 40 years old and it's still hanging in there!

And yes, it really works very well without adding much in the way of size or weight.

I still have a couple of the original Tyler grips. The last one I ordered was probably 15 years ago, and it took a number of months to finally get it. Then they seemed to not respond to calls at all. They werent taking internet orders back then either, you had to call.

I found this guy a while back, and have been more than happy with his version of the T Grip. He was cheaper too.

His are made of a polymer and have double "clips", which makes them a bit more solid on the gun.

These both are wearing one of the BK's.

I used to use Tyler T grips pretty regularly on my carry revolvers - and I say “used to” simply because I have nearly quit carrying revolvers altogether, and now what I have left which I carry all have hidden tang type grip frames and more hand filling grips (especially grip necks) and don’t need them. I only have one left, which I would have ordered…. eh… 5-6yrs ago? Using it to fill my hand around a Redhawk Kodiak Backpacker.

A T Grip on a humpback 638 with wooden shingles is about as classic and eclectic as it gets.

I've had Tyler's, BK and Robertson Trading Post versions. If you want silver colored, BK is out. Tyler's has the best fitment of all of them. I had to tinker with the one from Robertson to make it fit closer to the grip frame like the Tyler's. Delivery time on the Tyler's seems to be very inconsistent.

I ordered one about a year ago, and it took about eight months to arrive. They cashed the check immediately and never made any contact at all. The package just showed up one day. That, by the way, is exactly what I expected and has been so for quite some time. I have no reason to believe anything has changed in the meanwhile: you almost certainly will get what you asked for, but all you can really do is send the check and then forget about it. (You can buy just about any model you want on Ebay, for two or three times the going amount. You also can go to "BK Grips" and get a 3D printed version cheap and fast, if you just want to try the idea out.)

Personally, I am a huge fan. They are reasonably well made, though nothing to write home about, and they are reasonably secure on the gun, though not really quite as firmly attached as I would like. But they, when combined with a Magna-style grip, fit my hand better than any other DA grip I've found, and I'd just about be lost without them.

My understanding is that they wait until they've got a decent sized order to make (or contract to have made) a particular size and color. If they happen to have some extras laying about then your order will ship immediately - but if you happen to order just as they've sent out the last of the stock, you may be in for a very long wait.

<Edit> There's also no point in trying to contact them, or in trying to order over the phone. The only practical option is to print out the order form and mail it in with your check. At this point, the whole operation appears to be somebody's sideline - and an unimportant sideline at that.

I talked on the phone with the guy who took over when Tyler re-opened a few years ago. From what I gathered, he makes them in batches as pointed out above. I believe he was the only full time l employee. He told me at the time, he was hiring part-timers, I believe school kids, to do the polishing.

During the period Tyler was closed, T-grips were bringing crazy prices on eBay. I am glad they are back in business. I don't mind a wait, even if it's months.

I have both old Tylers and BKs and the level of fit and finish quality is much better on the Tylers. Functionally, though, they are itentical. I haven't ordered any Tylers since "the recent unpleasantness" so I can't speak to that.

Two brands are currently available, Tyler’s (slow delivery from Tyler) and BK. If you buy Tyler, go the used route. Yes, you pay more but you get them in the foreseeable future. It is a small concern and they keep little inventory. Mostly, they wait for sufficient orders to come in and then make a casting run. Then they finish those and ship them out. I have heard horror stories but I am not aware of anyone getting shafted. They are aluminum and have one set of tabs to anchor to the frame. Available in several finishes.

BK are polymer, have two tabs and ship promptly and are available in black.

A google search will get you those two websites.

Grip adapters were also made by Mershon, Pachmyar, and Smith and Wesson. These are found on eBay and the like.

Yes, I like grip adapters on my revolvers. Here is my EDC,

I have a BK on my model 36. I also have one on my model 10. I like them very much. I have no experience with Tyler T Grips. I tried calling them many times a few years ago. Finally spoke to someone that basically told me to fill out the order form snd send a check then he hung up. I spoke to the guy that makes BK adapters then bought 2. I like them very much.

would appreciate learning about differences when shooting between pachmayr/hogue rubber and bk t-grips. all my revolvers wear the former with covered backstraps to mitigate recoil, but the latter seem to offer a slimmer ccw profile. thanks in advance!

I had a Pachmayr Gripper on my model 10 and model 19 and I had a Hogue Monogrip on my model 36. They were just “okay”, but both made the model 10 and the 36 bulky feeling to me. The rubber gripped my tee shirts or whatever shirt I had on whenever I moved which was annoying. I bought the BK adapters and went back to the service panels that came on the guns and liked that set up very much. I eventually bought some nice service panel type grips for the model 10. The model 19 got Altamont Ropers.
I like the wood grips with the BK adapters very much. I am considering doing the same on my S&W 442.
