Caught a segment on History Channel about this:

Very cool toy. Wish we could undo the import ban.

Barrett was supposed to bring in a civilian version of the tavor, but I think I read somewhere that it fell through.

I do have some good news though, the Hezi(a 30 carbine bullpup) has a good chance of coming into the US. This is the email I got from the company.

"We intend to offer the HEZI in the second half of 2005, but do not have a date yet."

The second, and I mean the second, the Hezi comes out I'm buying one. It looks SOOOOO cool.

Never gonna lay my hands on that new IMI rifle. Ever.

So ugly, I'd fight with a handgun instead.:banghead:

Saw the History Channel show also..

Being a lefty, I am usually turned off by bullpups, but right before a commercial they put a graphic that explained that the rifle could be converted to left-hand quickly, with no tools...

Looks OK to me..

I'd love to have one. The only thing is that whoever was importing them would have to put 10 US made parts on it, right?

Couple of things I don't like about the Tavor, at least as a combat rifle, both after seeing the History Channel bit and looking it up on the web:

1) No back up iron sights.

2) It uses a similar 7-lug bolt setup to the M-16. I really, really hate cleaning the star chamber. Not sure how much a gas piston action will help keeping crud out, but that feature is a pain to clean thoroughly.

3) It's still a poodle shooter. Although, the IDF has extensive counter-terrotist/guerilla experience, and don't seem to see the need for anything else.

No BUIS is a negative, but this would still be a cool toy to have. The HEZI looks really slick too.

Tavor, Hezi, Steyr AUG, all variations on a theme really, but cool nonetheless.

There is supposedly a Hezi .223 coming out as well.

I should of asked them about that. I think I might have to send them another email.:D

I read somewhere on the net that some Israeli company is setting up shop in Texas, so it might be these guys.

I had a video clip from an industry trade show with an IMI guy showing it to the guy with the camera and it had flip up iron sights.

The link is at the bottom of the page, be warned, it's huge.

I just wish someone would build a bullpup that didn't have a 15" or longer LOP. It's odd having both hands so far foreward, especially when they balance at the grip.

thats funny you mention the huge LOP on bulpups. I love bulpups, but thay have allot of problems. the LOP, the (mostly) RH eject...etc. so I designed my own. 11.5 LOP and bottom eject in .308. heres a design pic

well NC, I'm working on a 9 mm carbine proto ( project F9C ) right now but that should be done in a couple of weeks, then I start on the bullpup prototype. the only problem is that I don't have a barrel yet. so if anyone wants to send me a barrel just PM me. other than that if all goes as planned it will be between 2 and 4 years before they go into production.
