have shot a 1911A1 SA and and a S&W K frame for nearly two decades; these guns are natural pointers for me. i would like to get a nine, but am overwhelmed with the array of choices. not having the time or facilities to try all, which ones are likely to be good fits relative to my 1911 and s&w K? thank you

I say Glock 17 or 19 now that hi-caps are reasonable again . I was a diehard 1911 fan until I decided to try one , accurate , reliable , unbreakable and UGLY you just have to get over the ugly to appreciate one .

unfortuniately. i'm not able to adapt to a glock. barrel goes way high when i grip it. tried a cz 97b(?).45 trigger too far gun torques. the Xd9 does fit :) however, is this gun capable of better than average accuracy and reliablity?

There is a universe of good 9mms out there and you have already received some great suggestions.
I would add the Browning Hi Power into the equation. I don't think you can get a better 9mm.
There is also the HK P7.
Beretta 92.
and of course the CZ 75.
But it would be hard to beat a Hi Power.

And the record skips again. . .

XD
CZ
BHP

Oops, new beat--Beretta 92

All are the most naturally pointing 9mms I have fired.

can you give us some more criteria for your 9mm? like full size/compact, SA or DA or DAO, steel or plastic, barrel length, single or double stack etc? that would help narrow it down a little more.

Bobby

Sounds like a Browning High Power to me. Comfortable, Accurate, familiar manual of arms, classic.

And all that praise coming from the one gun nut in the Eastern Hemisphere who doesn't like the Highpower one darn bit, so it must be at least a pretty good gun.

full size,SA or DAO, steel(maybe poly)at least 4"" bbl, double stack. are you recommending a new Browning HP or one made by FN?

Another vote for a Hi-Power. It is an evolution of the 1911 design and has one of the slimmest double-stack grips around. CZ's are close, but they aren't quite as nice as the Hi-Power.

9mm? Well, my friend, hard to beat a Sig Sauer:
P226: ST, R, or original
P228
P229
P239
P225
Take your pick...they are all amazing.

For polymer: SP2022 or SP2009.

I also love and high recommend (after the Sig): CZ 75BD or CZ-P01.

After that, it's an IMI/MRI Baby Eagle in 9mm, XD-9, or HK.

Cheers!

I rented a P99 recently, and I thought I would like it. I wanted to like it. I wanted to buy one... Then I shot it. Hated it. Got another beretta, this time a stainless Vertec. Smooth gun. Less muzzle flip than the plastic framed guns.

Get a Beretta
