Yup. On the standard Beretta 92 with the slide mounted safety, it's UP for off, and DOWN for safe, the complete opposite of how the safety on the 1911 AND the Taurus PT-92/99 works. THAT is the major reason I went with Taurus. That, and they typically cost less than Beretta.
I've had my PT-92 for 13+ years, and it has never failed to operate.
