I have a KAHR CW45. Gun is like new, comes with 3 factory mags and box. A friend wants to trade straight up a new S&W SD9VE 9MM with two hi caps.

Is this a good deal? I have a 45acp already, but no nine. Not sure if I want one, but not against a nine. What are my fellow High Roaders thoughts?

Thanks.

The SD9VE isn't a bad pistol honestly. It isn't a target pistol that is for sure but I wouldn't feel undergunned if it was for carry. The question you need to ask your self is what do you want to do with each of the pistols, carry guns, range guns, combo of both? I think the Kahrs retail higher than the S&W so based on that solely I wouldn't straight trade.

I don't know that the Kahrs (and I've had several) are fundamentally better pistols than the S&W model cited. It's a good design that has improved over the years. That said, however, the triggers are typically nasty, unless it's been sent back to the factory for tuneup (which they do free, and apparently do a pretty good job.)

Unless it's had the trigger worked on, I wouldn't particularly care for it. Be sure to try it.

I think, on it's face, there is a good bit of difference in price/value: the Kahr's MSRP is about $500 with one mag -- and you're talking 3; and the S&W is about $375 with two mags. While you can discount the MSRP, because they're both used, the prices should still be quite different, and the extra Kahr mags are costly. Not an even trade...

I suspect, however, the a CW45 is NOT a fun gun to shoot. If that's the case, and you still want to move on, compare prices and ask for some extra cash (maybe $75-$125+).

I wouldn't make that trade. The Kahr is better pistol than anything in the S&W Sigma series.

I would keep the Kahr. If you want a 9, sell the 45 outright and then buy a 9 or trade the 45 to a better 9 of equal value to the Kahr.

The S&W is a good low cost gun, but I wouldn't make the trade unless your friend offers to throw in an extra $100 for price difference and extra mag.

What we haven't heard from the OP is whether he LIKES the Kahr CW45. He's the one considering the trade, and there must be something behind that consideration -- particularly since he says he's neither for nor against a 9mm.

If he DOES NOT like the Kahr CW45, the key point is getting appropriate value for a sale or trade. If he doesn't like the CW45, he's has a reason to sell or trade, but the question is whether the S&W offered is the best way to go -- and whether there should be value added to equalize the trade.

It's not just a question of which gun is BETTER or MORE VALUABLE...

I wouldn't call anyone trying to make that trade with me a friend. Around these parts a CW45 commands more than a S&W SD9VE.

I agree with this. SD is a good gun, but I think they're a little over 300 bucks new at some shops and the Kahrs are more.

I don't know what retail is for a CW45 but the SD series Sigma pistols retail for $320 NIB at the Academy near me.

I wouldn't do it. The Kahr is better for concealed carry and at least $100 more new than the Smith.

I had an older sigma at one point, and like everyone else says, the trigger was horrendous. I am grateful that I had it though because it made me a better shooter by learning how to deal with crappy triggers.
