625 .45 ACP Mountain Gun. The only way it could be any better is if it were an original 1950 Target with a 4" barrel and original Roper stocks. If I were forced to start parting with scrap iron, this one would be one of the last to go. It's practical, packable and can be loaded from mild (185gr .45 ACP wadcitters) to wild (250gr .45 Supers). All that with moonclips and a great action. What's not to like?

...like Joe Hatley, I'd choose a Smith & Wesson Model 625...but which ONE???

Any gun that allows me to put 50 rounds into a target like this at 15 yards, has my dieing love!

JoeHatley,

Except for the red dot scope, we have the same 625 PC V-Comp. Question: Do you notice much of a difference with the muzzel break on or off. I did not notice enough that makes me say it helps. I usually shoot mine with the muzzle nose guard in place. I believe the overall wieght of the gun itself does more to control the muzzle rise on this particular revolver.

nice picture...

...hey, Peter, are those "Coke Bottle" Target Grips on the pre-Model 25???...If so, I am VERY ENVIOUS!!!...I've got an S93,xxx pre-Model 26 that NEEDS grips like those....mikey357

The only time I can really "feel" the comp working, is with hot loads in the +P range. I think the .45 acp is just too low pressure a round to make much use of it. It doesn't seem to effect accuracy, so I just leave mine on.

I've got more guns than I need but my 1955 25-2 would be one of the last to go. Mine has the 6 1/2" barrel, is cheap and pleasant to shoot and is accurate as the dickens. Love those old Smith blue jobs!

Had a model 26 6.5" that I liked but sold it in a weak moment (ya, I know :banghead: ). Also had a 4" 25-5 45 Long Colt and did the same (ya, I know :banghead: ). Liked it too.

I would LOVE a mountain gun in 45ACP. I'm not fond of stainless, but that has to be a perfect combination. Ya, a model 26 (or pre 26) in 4" would be a wonderful find, but $$$$$$$$!! I have a third model hand ejector 4" in 44 Special that will have to do for now(poor me :D ).

Too many Smiths, too little time.

S&W Model 25 "Model of 1955". It's a big N framed gun with a 6.5" bbl. I have owned it for 16 years and am still in love.
