They aren't going to make a military version, at least not for the US military.

Given HK's propensity to largely ignore the civilian market, why would they make a civilian version of something they're not making for the military?

FWIK the XM8 was just a "gussied up" version of the Hk G-36. There are lots of G36s in production, and no drive to get them to the civilian market (by HK anyways). When we start seeing civie G36s, then we might start seeing XM8s.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a civie version of a prototype to come out before a production gun.

I doubt they will because unless they tooled up to produce them here, our rulers would never allow such a dangerous military weapon to be imported for sale to American Commoners.

What's the attraction? FN is already selling all of the overpriced European elastopolymer one could possibly want.

No, and unicorns, bears and pumas do not exist either.:D

Man, now you've done it--you just started another Errornet gun myth! Tomorrow dozens of people will be slamming a certain gun store in Utah saying that they've read "on the Internet" that HK is coming out with a Title I XM8.

OK...
Actualy they will make one for the military (i forgot where i got that)

And they will (probably) make civie version for it

Are we stuck with all those hand-guns, ARs etc...?in our whole life

I don't think so... the future is coming in FAST!!

God I hope they don't. The XM8 looks like a friggin' toy.

First thing that popped into my mind seeing the XM8's publicty page was "Star Wars." The thing looks like a prop to a B-Grade Space Monster Movie. What ever happened to our guns actually looking Badass?

R.I.P. The Thompson and the BAR; last service guns to look as scary as they were.

Now the XM-109.... That I could sink my teeth into.

I saw one shooting an HK that had synthetic stocks that matched the XM8 at the shooting range about 6 months ago. It looked identical to the XM8 in every way except the owner said it had a few differences. I never asked him where he got the upgrades and what gun it was originally but I'm sure it was a G36.

But I would personally buy an XM8 if it came out on the market. I also don't understand all the hatred people have for it, but then again, the people who bash the XM8 are probably the same people that think every modern innovation is a piece of crap. ("those damn bullpups, those damn reflex sights" etc.

The XM8 is dead. The Army pulled the plug on it last year. It was a rifle development project that failed to live up to expectations and the Army killed it.

As has been mentioned above, the XM8 has not made it out of the testing phase (and it will not move out of that phase) and even if it had HK would never make it available to the civilian market (if you don't believe me, try and find a 416).

Old windbags that think firearms should not have been produced after 1950. Old guns are neat but new guns are neat as well. I can just imagine when the first metallic cartridge came out "You see that new fangled gun that doesnt take 10 minutes to reload ?"........"That will never take off." .

Not true of all of use; I think the military should just dump the chea[p-looking XM8 and buy a few truckloads of FN-F2000's.

I'm of the mind if our military looked more intimidating, less people would screw with us.

I'm suddenly of the urge to post an image from Jin-Roh...

Whats makes you think they will make a civilian version of the HK XM8 when they scrapped the military version.

But, since its based on the G36, as close to a XM8 you will ever get will be the

SL8(semi-auto civilian rifle based on G36 mechanism)

or at a gunshow.

You can buy a SL8 to G36 conversion kit, plus some SL8 models can be fed the high -cap G36 magazines, so I suppose its as close to an XM8 as you will ever get.

KKKKK....
Does G36 have a civie version right now or probably in the future.. and it realy looks like the XM8 but Bad A**..

I may be a windbag, but I am likely younger than you and all I can say is that alot of these so called "improvements" are really just ways to disguise cost cutting by the manufacturers. Not to say that there haven't been some real advances in technology, but if guns were engineered and built today like they used to be we would turn up our noses at alot of the stuff on the market or in the field today.

Damn whippersnappers...

My beef with the new military designs is the amount of crap they plan to hang off of them. I would hate to hump the new FN2000 around all day. Keep it simple a holosight, and perhaps a light is all you need.

Bah. BULLCRAP AND MILARKY. All of it.

You need Full Headgear and a Hip-Mounted MG-42!

Yeah, because soldiers and marines are just adding all the rest of that stuff to the weapon because they enjoy carrying extra weight. Really, serves no other purpose.

Indeed; afterall - everyone can hand-lob a Fragger the same distence that underbarrel 20mm Launcher can; it's just dead weight and bling.
