I need to get a very large tumbler. I just got 3000 pieces of 223 remington brass (ah, no crimped primers!). I have a frankford arsenal tumbler and just started the second batch of brass to clean and the tumbler sounded unusually loud. I came back into the room and it wasn't running. I opened the bottom and the motor had came loose from the mount and 2 of the bolts had snapped off and one of the fan blades broke off. The motor is now burnt up too. I've probably only run that tumbler for 25 hours or so. I've barely used it. I'm wanting to get a new one and I want it to be able to hold large amounts of brass. The biggest that I've seen for under $100 is the Lyman 2500. It says that it will hold 1000 38 special cases. Is there anything else out there in that price range that would be better? Thanks

Sounds like you might have overloaded it, so you definately want a larger one. That said, call Fankford Arsenal and get them to warranty that one. They certainly will.

Steve H- Good call. I wasn't thinking hornadylnl was thinking THAT big.

I know one moderator around here that used to do just that when he was a commercial ammo supplier.

Harbor Frt

Has a small concrete mixer that some people on GT have modified for tumbling brass.

The Big Dillon is huge, and it will get your brass done.

i had a small tumbler and one day wanted/needed more. i got the biggest Dillon about ten years ago and have used it much since. nothing broke or sounds funny in it. i expect another ten years service from it.

Get the Dillon CV-2001 and while your at it get the CM-2000, you’ll never look back. If anything breaks Dillon will send you a new one. 1000 223 cases at a time are no problem. If your wife thinks it costs too much, show her a picture of the cement mixer you were going to put on the back porch.

I have the franford arsenal rotary seperator kit now. It's pretty chincy but it works. I think I am leaning towards the dillon. I just turned 30 a few months ago and I'm going through the transition of no longer wanting to buy cheap stuff and getting something that will last a lifetime. I just bought my hornady lnl ap press with case feeder, etc. It is way more than what I currently need to reload for the amount I shoot but hopefully I'll have many years to get my money out of it. Plus, once I get a bunch of ammo loaded up, I'll probably start shooting a lot more than what I do right now.

The Hummer of Tumblers!

When it comes to vibratory case cleaners, hands down Thumbler’s Tumbler is the high water mark. I did a lot of research about tumblers, and while I agree with all of the above posted recommendations, none of the above are rated in service the way a Thumbler’s is. There is no plastic on these machines, and the bowl is constructed of polyethylene. They also have an industrial line with a heavier motor assembly. With quality though comes a heavy price. For my UV-18, I paid about $150 delivered. I sold my old blue on Ebay for $30. As for capacity, I put 700 .45 ACP as a test and let it run overnight. But I usually only run about 450 at a time, once a week.

Just as a p.s.; My Thumbler's Tumbler vibratory case cleaner is Red and goes very well with my Hornady LNL AP w/ case feeder too! I'm very fashion conscious.

Those thumler's tumbler's are pretty darn nice. I really like their rotary style tumbler. Seems a real nice device and much quieter than the standard style tumbler.
