Want a choke wrench for my Maverick 88. Can't find one locally anyplace and ordering one from Mossberg costs more in shipping than the actual item itself!

As I look at pictures of the stupid thing and it looks like molded plastic anyway. Can somebody tell me if it's plastic or metal?

Does anyone know of other wrenches that will work with a Maverick 88?

Thanks
Ze

As long as you keep your choke tubes lubed with a thin film of graphite grease so they don't bind, a U.S. Quarter will work just about as well as a wrench for getting tubes in and out.

Okay,
I'll give that a try tonight. I have noticed that Mossberg tubes have much narrower slots than anything else I've seen before but maybe it'll work.

ZeSpectre, if you bought it new there should have been one with it. They are steel and have two sizes on them so as to fit the overbored versions, assuming yours is a 12 ga. I've seen them in our local Walmart's and some of the sporting catalogs, also on Mossy web site and havlinsales.com site (they specialize in mossy parts). My mav. '91 (3 1/2") came with chokes, wrench, 3-shot plug, safety manuals, etc., have had it for a few yrs. and still haven't shot it, NIB. This was the mav. model they quit making so they could sell their 835, just like it. Will be trying it out soon for patterns with various loads and chokes, think I have 6 accu-mag size chokes for it now with one ext. turkey tube of some kind. Am going to the "Wizard of Oz" soon to get my courage to shoot the 3 1/2's . LOL.

I'll keep the nickel idea in mind!
Although anything choke-wise designed for the 500 should work on the 88. I also use winchokes.
