I've noticed that the ends of the axles that hold the shell elevator in the receiver are recessed about 1/32" in from the outside face of the receiver walls. Is this normal? I have a Maverick 88 that have them flush with the receiver walls. I can't tell from pictures at the Mossberg site, but I think it detracts from the appearance and allows dirt to collect and be drawn into the gun. Anyone notice this?

It's a spring of a sort. Just strip the gun down and *CAREFULLY* open the arms outward a tad and then stick it back in and test fit it. If you do it right, you'll notice there's one perfect spot where the arms will fit the holes perfectly but the elevator won't rub on the insides of the receiver. If yours is rubbinng the sides, squeeze it together a tad and refit it. Once you get that part right, add the bolt and flip the elevator up and down some more. In that perfect spot, the elevator won't rub the sides of the receiver nor the sides of the bolt. Keep test fitting it til you find it. In that spot, reassemble the gun.

Welcome to the forum, Seth and all. Lvl21, I've seen before but not you other two. Good to have you.
