I am going out on a limb here and making an assumption based on trends that I see in this country.

I will assume that all of the facts of the situtation of the shooting at VT will be ignored and the new gun ban will be passed in congress with great praise in the media. Regardless of what the people want or is shown in polls the ban will pass and may even be more strict than currently presented... Any congress member who stands up against it will be painted as a murderer in the press and we all know congrss cares more about what the media thinks than the people.

I believe that this will happen soon, before congress lets out and maybe even in a surprise overnight move. Based on that I am making preparations for a long ban (perhaps forever) that will result in a reduction of everyone's RKBAs. I will still try to fight this but, I believe the battle has already been lost... I must make plans for the future now for what is a likely outcome.

I would encourage everyone here to make as many preparations as soon as possible. Luckily for me I have the means that I can afford to buy most items which I am certain will be banned in the near future. If you do not have the means I would suggest that you evaluate what is important to you and act accordingly, keeping in mind that this is just one man's opinion.

Based on that what do you believe will be most impacted? Midway has seen some action from me this morning already in the high capacity magazine order but what else should people be most concerned about?

The one item that I never bought and wished I had now is a .50BMG rifle. Unfortunatly it is not high enough on the priority list to buy one now.

I agree, the anti's will use this as ammo (pun intended) for a new AWB and high cap magazine ban. Stock up now everyone, you know what's coming.

We already have a AWB, and high capacity ban in Mass. Though I know some legislators and the new Governor will use this incident to pass even more restrictive gun laws in this state. One of the governors election platforms was more gun control.

Don't forget to get involved in your local state RKBA orgs. Here in NH, we stopped 'em butt cold when they tried to move CCW to may issue based on whether or not the chief of police in your town thought you could be connected to a "criminal or terrorist organization" recently.

They're going to hammer away at all levels. State orgs are extremely good at getting people organized and putting them on the right path to fighting these liberals.

Start getting your congresscritters' contact information in order, as well as write up some LTE drafts. This is going to be a nasty fight.

With all the freedoms we enjoy here sometimes I forget that the citizens some states are not as equal as other states. For those of you in living in those states; what do you wish you had now that you can not get?

Stop...just stop. Stop going into "chicken little" mode. You are a fearful bunch. It's the fearful ones who lose their rights. The 2nd Amendment recognizes your right to bear arms. One of which is for this very reason. If you have people telling you that they are going to take you guns, or pass new laws to bar you from purchasing more. You need to give them a resounding "heck no, over my dead body", and mean it. And if you don't mean it you have already lost and don't deserve to have those rights. Rights aren't free, they are fought for. Fight for this one and stop acting like it's over.

What to do next?

I am disgusted at this country's inability to think logically. Banning guns will make things worse. Criminals will always get their hands on weaponry regardless of law. It is not the job of Congress or anyone to pass laws that take rights away from law abiding citizens. Bubble wrap and banning are not the answer.

I am getting off topic...My question is, What will people do if a stronger and more restrictive gun ban passes? I sure as hell will not yield to a government who does not uphold the constitution and the principals of our founding fathers. The second amendment is in place so that we may protect ourselves against such tyranny. They are attempting to erase this constitutional right and we are headed in the direction of another revolution.

I hate to admit it, but I feel helpless. What can we do to protect our rights and help this country to stay afloat?

*May God be with those families who have lost loved ones in the massacre at VT*

I personally expect them to target ammunition as well. The media is already talking about "high powered 9mm" ammunition. The UN is doing what it can to prevent import, and president Hillary (or fill in whatever liberal name you want) will certainly target domestic makers. Perhaps we have until post 2008 election, but after that anything can happen.

Grayrider,

Then we make our own...it's that simple. What part of cold dead hands do you not understand?

I have to disagree.

Not that what you suggest isn't possible...past history ancient and recent support your warning.

But I believe we are going to turn it around.

We've tried the Brady way.
Every honest and valid statistic and piece of evidence proves it doesn't work.

It's our turn now.
We are in this situation because we allowed it to happen.
We CAN change it, if enough of us make the effort.

DO something!
Small or large, it doesn't matter.
But do it, and keep doing it.

Please.

I am so sick of people like this.

I agree with you. It often makes me sick, Buy them now!!!!!! It's over!!!!!

I actually believe a nice steady serious stand is what is works best.

No.

You are right you have to mean it. Most people cry and boo hoo. Those are the same people who after the fact, after they let it happen because, "it's out of their control", those are the same people who will sit there after a "ban" and complain. I dont even consider these losers to be on my side.

The gun shops are the WORST! Seeings how it is their business to sell firearms, they seem like the biggest pushovers of all. Like the BATF is their boss.

I guess a ban is always good for business, but it makes me sick to listen to these guys talk to a newb :banghead: and try to sell a firearm based on a looming "BAN".

Better buy it now... I'm a big pushover and the world is coming to an end, boo hoo.

:barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

Don't get me wrong I am not giving up the ghost here but I think a contingency plan at this point is a wise move. I will still oppose the antis at every turn but I believe that in the end it will be futile.

When I see the members of the media with their painful and sometimes deliberate misunderstandings of firearms and their purpose and realize that they are against us it is hard to believe that we have a chance. You can not fight wilfull ignorance. The mass of people will swallow what they see on TV and support it.

The media and pols will work together to disarm us. Once the guns are gone freedom will go with it. I may well be wrong, and I hope I am wrong but I do not wish to take that chance. This worked to ban guns in Australia, it worked in England, it will likely work here as well. The antis were hoping for this and now they have it....

Edit BTW: I don't sell guns, magazines or aything else. I am in the military and have been for 20 years. I have seen these things happen this way most of my life including the DC gun ban. Disagree if you like and don't prepare, I care not.

I think Titan6 is wise to stock up. Why not? Look at whats happening.

In a few years, do you think its possible to have gun confiscations here? Sure. It could happen. Would it be wise to be well prepared? Sure.

***Are you prepared to die for your right to keep and bear arms?*** I am, hell yes. If that goes, everything else goes to. "Live free or die."

Titan is just supplementing his stockpile. Lets hope when the time comes he'll use it to fight the good fight if necessary.

Make your plans, have your backups, have your backups for them too when your backups fail....

Sound familiar? That Murphy was a real SOB....

But do what you want. What I find interesting is why would someone be opposed to preparing for something that is a good possibility? Sounds like the height of foolishness to me. Why don't you be the grasshopper fiddiling around and I will be the ant squirreling away for winter. If I am wrong then I lose nothing. But if I am right....

I think the outcry over how students who had carry permits were specifically prevented from defending themselves on various forums and in emails to politicians will get the right message out.

Gun rights advocates have already quite successfully made their voices heard over far less signifigant issue this year.

I believe if anything gun rights supporters can gain ground, pointing to the slow police response (Katrina-esque), and disarmament of civilians (gun free zones as slaughterhouses) and how 911 is not protection for anyone.

You can draw a lot of parallells between gun free zones and katrina disarmament, and the slow police response to katrina lawlessness. If nothign else if event should be used to reinforce the simple truth: in the end only YOU can make you safe or even defend your life from criminals.

Dude, you are starting to piss me off. I've been trying to buy a half a dozen AR's for the past two months. Unfortunately El Tejon keeps beating me to the punch and buying up parts before I can get to them.

It's your doom and gloom point of view will only make people freak out, which is driving up prices and hurting availability, and putting people into a fear mentality.

I am not opposed to stocking up, I've been trying to do it for awhile now. I want a decent supply of stuff, because I do expect it to get a little difficult in the coming years. I think it's prudent. But I see these things come and go. And I believe the gun community many times exacerbates the problem. Look at ammo prices. People hoarding .223 has driven prices up to near ridiculous costs. You adding to the fear is only going to make this worse.

Ozywyn- I hope you are right. I am not taking the chance.

Riassi- I can't do anything about ammo prices. That ship sailed about 18 months ago. El Tejon is likely on the right track but I would not to be in a bidding war with him though.

I don't really call it hoarding I call it an invesment. That reminds me. Time to order another case of 30.06 from CMP. It is cheaper than .223 so you might look into that. Not as comfortable to shoot by a long ways but delivered to your door for less than a quarter a bang....

We all believe in being prepared...stocking up is one way to be prepared.

We all know that the only way to improve things is for us to stand up and do what we have to do to get it done.

If we let different opinions and perspectives divide us we've lost before we started...and I consider that doom and gloom!!

I will not comply with further gun control measures. Alone, or as a group. i don't care what the personal cost is any more. I do not want my children to grow up as slaves...:fire:

I really think that this will get some of the non-gun people to start thinking that being disarmed and defenseless might not be a good thing after all.

I don't think much is going to be done at all. It be like Columbine with a lot of anger at the beginning and nothing will change in the end. I really had it with people anti and pro using massacres for their own political propoganda, especially this early on. When people rush in laws all it causes is a screw up, for example the patriot act that none of them even bloody read before voting for it.

I actually think that this will back fire on the anti's. People don't even know the full extent of what happened. Some parents haven't even been notified yet and they are already making anti gun speeches.

I think people are tired of things like this getting politicized.

Agreed! I could just imagine the collective sigh of everyone in America (who has a brain) when people in the media started talking about the need for more gun laws! It has gotten to be a tired line! :barf:
