So pretty much all of them claim to support the 2A, but that often means they just support deer hunting and the national guard. Which ones actually do support our gun rights?

Here's what I think I know so far:

Democrats:
Joseph Biden: Anti-Gun
Hillary Clinton: Anti-Gun
Christopher Dodd: Anti-Gun
John Edwards: Anti-Gun
Mike Gravel: ?
Dennis Kucinich: Anti-Gun
Barack Obama: Anti-Gun
Bill Richardson: Pro-Gun
---
Wesley Clark: Anti-Gun
Al Gore: Anti-Gun
Tom Vilsack: ?

Republicans:
Sam Brownback: ?
Jim Gilmore: ?
Rudy Giuliani: Anti-Gun
Mike Huckabee: Pro-Gun
Duncan Hunter: Pro-Gun
John McCain: Anti-Gun
Ron Paul: Pro-Gun
Mitt Romney: Anti-Gun
Tom Tancredo: Pro-Gun
Tommy Thompson: ?
---
Newt Gingrich: Anti-Gun
Chuck Hagel: ?
Fred Thompson: Pro-Gun

Tom Tancredo is rated B+ by the NRA ILA. So I guess that would make him more pro than anti.

Looking at that list makes me have a real bad feeling about what is going to happen to our 2nd amendement rights after the next election.:uhoh:

Good enough, I guess. I'll update the list to give him "Pro-Gun" status.

And this for giving Newt Gingrich an Anti:

D rating.
This is one of my complaints about the GOA ... they go off on odd tangents sometimes, make bold declarative statements about someone being pro or anti and then back them up with nebulous statements like "As Speaker of the House, Gingrich often generated frustration among gun owners by acting as a blocking force standing in the way of pro-gun reform." Without siting any specific examples ... by that standard Ron Paul is anti gun based on his lack of support for the law protecting gun manufacturers from frivolous law suits (he has his reasons, and they are not because he's anti gun).

Newt Gingrich is plenty pro gun. He believes the 2A is an INDIVIDUAL right for one thing. He's said many times that gun control is not crime control, that gun control wouldn't have prevented [insert mass murder here].

He's not jumping up and down in support of gun rights, but I wouldn't call him anywhere near anti.

I hate to do this but I think the real list of potential winners and people with enough recognition and charisma (because that is what matters more to many than actual positions based on records) is: Hilary, Obama, McCain.

Two Democrats and 1 Republican. At the next election I also think many will be voting more against the war than for an individual. As the Dems are going to tie this to Republicans as they have been in power, I think that leaves the potential winners as Hilary and Obama.

Of course things are still very early and I hear Obama has some dirt to be found in his past. His stance on firearms and that they do not even belong in the hands of citizens is just scary. Hilary would be marginaly better, if you consider a new AWB at the least to be better. McCain, I do not know how things would end up with him.

We have a democraticly controlled congress and once they get a president in office I think we may see some serious consequences because all those bills will fly right through the process to become law.

I hope I am wrong but that is how I am seeing things turning out.

Obama just scares me. Smooth and charming, intelligent, and manages to woo audiences without ever really giving a solid challengable position on things. Based on charisma he is the clear cut winner of the group. That says nothing about credibility, experience, or his positions on subjects. He would be the worst one for all of us if he wins.

Say what you will about Hilary, (I personally think of her as the evil Vizir in Aladin; But who plays the parrot?) she does at least have the capacity to learn from mistakes. In a limited fashion. If elected, I rather doubt she'll pursue an "assault weapon" ban, given the backlash that caused. She'll be going after us on the margins, not a direct assault.

Without defending or bashing.....the NRA and GOA hate McCain over the Campaign Finance Reform Bill more than anything else.

Given that McCain's "Campaign Finance Reform" bill effectively SILENCES the NRA and other pro-gun groups, while the Bradys (I think) and the 99.9% anti-gun MSM have free reign to spew their hatred and lies, isn't that ENOUGH reason to oppose him?

McCain is pro-gun to the extent that it makes for a good sound bite when he thinks we are watching. He is anti-gun to the extent that it makes for a good sound bite when he thinks that the anti-gun crowd is watching. He's slippery.
