A Smith and Wesson MP 10-9, made for the Royal Hong Kong Police. The condition isn't quite as nice as the picture shows, three or four rust specks, good sized turn ring, some missing finish. Still, would probably go for "very good" on most auction sites. Balanced. Nice trigger pull, as I've come to expect from Smith and Wessons. $300 even.

There was an additional advantage not seen in the photos: private party. The things a person with only 19 tenders years to their credit must do to stave off the ill effects of the iwannacoolgun virus. ;) I'll take a better picture tomorrow.

I saw your Firing Line posting of this.

Do the grips have Royal Hong Kong emblems, or are they standard S&W medallions? I've always wanted the grips with the RHK markings.
Any more where that came from?

No RHKP markings other than the serial on the rear of the grip. Standard S&W medallions. I got this from a fellow I know and he isn't sitting on a stash of them. There is on up at gunbroker right now.

We had a bunch of these about five years ago.
Like new and about $300.00 out the door.
Very good buy and they sold quickly.

Here's a posting I did a few years ago on this piece...

Mine is a 10-9, serial # BEB5xxx.

It was made on October 20, 1989 and was one of over 13,000 shipped to the RHKP. They were all (most?) taken back in trade by S&W when the RHKP replaced this model with the Model 10-4" HB (heavy barrel, and yes, the "Why" of this escapes me too).

At that time, the RHKP went from the British style holster with flap, butt forward on the left hip to the holster worn on the right hip. A 6-round speed loader was also then added as standard police issue.

The original issue had a lanyard that went from the lanyard ring to an epaulet on the officer's right shoulder, I don't think that the heavy-barrel replacement had the lanyard.

The engraving of the RHKP serial number was done in Hong Kong.

... and also, if you do a search on EBAY for "Royal Hong Kong Police", you can usually find some nifty odds and ends to go with your revolver - patches, badges, etc. All on the market as their name no longer uses the word "Royal

Ah, the rocking Hong Kong police!

I don't know if the Hong Kong PD ever rocked but I've seen 'em roll. A slightly better picture:

My very first gun was (is) a RHKP S&W model 10. Mine is in a lot worse shape cosmetically - dings, scrapes, worn finish, etc., but it is a great shooter. I got it from a guy at a local flea market for $175 back in the mid-1990's. I just took it to the range on Memorial Day for the first time in several years and remembered how much fun it is.
