Just picked up several 200 round cases of Hornady metric ammo in 7.62X39 caliber. The ammo itself is packaged in 20-round blue and white boxes with the "Prvi Partizan" logo on it.

Anybody have any experience with this brand? It's supposedly non-corrosive, and the brass cases are Boxer-primed and reloadable, so I bought it. Is it a cut above Wolf MC and Brown Bear, etc...?

Prvi Partizan makes Wolf Gold ammunition, and if I'm not mistaken, the Winchester offerings in 7.62x54r are also made by Prvi. The ammo should serve well.

Most stateside x39 ammo is 308. I suspect his metric stuff is .311.

Here's that MYTH again  All 7.62x39 loaded by mainstream manufacturers uses either .310 or .311 diameter bullets. That whole "american 7.62x39 is loaded with .308 bullets" line is a load of hogwash.

"PRVI Partizan Ammunition

In Australia PRVI ammo is marketed under the brand name of Highland and my understanding is that it is Yugoslavia derived ammo.

Alright Krochus, so if I were to go in to Gander Mountain et al and measure the bullets on their Remington/American Eagle/Winchester ammo I'd get .311?

Seriously, if this is just a myth I'll be the first one to go and measure for myself. I'm not one to reciprocate false information willingly.

Why then, did Ruger make thier Mini-14's with .308" dia. barrels?

Way back in the depths of time in a long lost age called the 1980's ruger made the first batch of Mini30's with the barrels they had on hand, in this case .308 , At that time 7.62x39 was an exotic rarity and domestic firearm and ammo manufacturers didn't know quite to make of it at that time.

fast forward to the 21'st century and you'll find that manufacturers have long ago figured out how to make 7.62x39 to the proper SAMMI specifications.

So in short Ruger took the cheap and lazy way out in making barrels for the Mini30
