Kel Tec P11 - hmmmm?

I'd rather have a weapon on me that carries 8 rounds than a weapon at home or in the car that carries 10-12 rounds.

2 ounces and 0.1" don't make that much difference to me. I carry my P11 in a pocket everywhere, don't even think about it being there. I can't imagine a PF9 would be any easier, nor worth the drop in firepower, but to each his own.

I own several more expensive/attractive guns & the P11 the one I keep choosing to carry. The pinky extension for me offers no advantage, I lock my pinky under the mag & that stabilizes the gun pretty well. The 12 round capacity means I don't really need an extra clip, the SS belt clip makes it effortless to grab & go, the long firm trigger lets me feel very comfortable with one in the pipe. I think that's a real bargain, you can send the slide off for a HC job fairly cheap once you decided to keep it. I have the Parkerized version & although the finish is well worn from 3 years of daily carry, it is corrosion free & fairly stealth.
The reliability problems on the PF have not been resolved yet & it is bigger in every dimension except width. The weight difference is mostly the 4 more rounds I get to carry :)

Hey Lefty,
Go to www.ktog.net , this stands for Kel-Tec Owners Group, there you can find information for a trigger kit with a lighter spring. The stock spring is rated at 10 lbs and the kit spring is rated at 8 lbs. There is also info on trigger shoes and lots of other stuff. I bought a P-11 for myself and my wife took it. It is a great CCW. Try the Federal Premium 124 gr Hydra-shok ammo for personel defense.

Srigs-How similar is the 6946’s trigger to that of the P11?

Night and day. The 6946 is DAO half cocked and P11 is not cocked at all (long pull). The Smith is smoother, lighter, more consistent than the P11. I like both guns but each meets a particular need and sometimes I carry them both.

I hope that helps. :D

I took her to the range today (the P-11 that I bought used, earlier in this thread). Only one FTF on a 147 grain Winchester hollow point, (rest of the mag full ran fine). I tried some other ammo (FMJ) and all worked well. Nice gun. I can't wait to go back and try some other defense ammo. I'm still happy that I scored this future pocket carry piece for under $200:D

Glad you like it, they are a lot of gun for the money. If you like to tinker, check out the Kel Tec sight that I posted earlier & look at some of the "melted slides" where the owners rounded the corners by hand & then had the slide HC'd or coated.

Kel-Tec is one of my favorite companys ( not firearms but the company itself). If you buy it new and send in the registry card it is guaranteed for life and will serve you very well. I keep the P3AT and absolutely love it. Besides its 100% American Made unlike many of the others that claim to be.

I got a PF9, worlds smallest 9mm, and I have been very happy with it. It, too, has a crappy trigger, but it is suprizingly accurate at up close and personal distances. I wouldn't want to enter the Bianchi Cup with it, but for it's intended purpose it is hard to beat.

http//:www.ktrange.org is another source of Kel-Tec information and feedback.

I am another happy P-11 owner/shooter/carrier. I have close to 3000 rounds through mine-mostly E. European steel-case ammo. As described above, I pocket carry without a mag extension. The long trigger demands a lot of practice but, hey, you get an excuse to shoot!

gunman42782, just as an aside: The Pf9 is not the worlds smallest 9mm, both Kahr Arms and Rohrbaugh have smaller single stack 9mm pistols on the market.

The PF9 is as big or bigger in all dimensions as the P11 except for width. I'd rather have the 5 more round 9mm capacity than be less than 1/8" thinner width. The reliability of the PF's is still not up to the P11 standards.

I recently handled a PF9, and it didn't really impress me. As LT1coupe noted, there is no practical difference in size. When I carry, it's the slide that wants to print. Also, it seems that the wider grip of the P11 should make it easier to hold, and all for less perceived recoil.

Over on the Kel-Tec forums, there is some speculation over whether K/T will incorporate the PF9 trigger into a new generation of P11s.

Mine has been fired over 400 rounds and carried a lot in my front pocket. Very reliable gun.

I used to agree with you guys about the PF-9 until I handled it this weekend. Regardless what the numbers say, it is a world smaller than the P-11. I it REALLY light and slim and its trigger and sights are much better than the original.
I will be getting a PF-9. I don't think I need it but I'll get one anyhow. Its too neat to pass up.

Do a little reading about the extractor issues, I don't know if they've fixed the problem yet.

I think I will. A SUBJECTIVE one. Too often people try thier KTs with ammo it doesn't like and they call it junk. My P-11 HATES longer rounds. It won't feed more than three hydrashoks or Gold Dots without choking. On the other hand it will feed Remington UMC, Federal 9BP or DPX without a hickup. If I didn't take the time to find out what works I would have given it a bum rap. Often smaller guns are more finicky when it comes to ammo. Even the expensive ones have problems. I stopped carrying my P-11 because I bought a M&P 9c. It eats everything I feed it and it is super reliable and accurate. I would give up the hotter ammo in trade for the tiny PF-9 for certain occasions though. It will be later August or September before I get my PF-9 but I will post a good range report when I get it.

To show how individual guns can be, my P11 functions perfectly with Hydra-Shoks. As Jon says, find what works in your pistol.

I wonder how many people try their pet load in a P-11 or other guns for that matter and when it won't feed it they condemn it as junk. Silly them.

I always start with my favorite load in 9mm
which is the Black hills 115gr GDHP +P.In
this P-11 i own it didn't work too well,POI
was 2-3" left of POA at 10 yardsI also didn't
like the harsh recoil of this load.

I found that my second favorite 9mm load,
the Federal classic 115gr JHP (9BP) works
very well in my P-11.Recoil isn't harsh and
it hits POA out to 15yards which is as far
as i've tried it.
