Actually, it's Remington 40x in an AI AICS. I've never shot milsurp in this rifle. I only shoot FGMM, or handloads. Right now the bullet of choice is 155gn Lapua Scenars over 48.5 gns of AA 2520. I prefer stick powders like VV N135, N140 for accuracy, but 2520 is so easy to load - meters like water. Unfortunately, I have an early 40x with a Hart 1:12 twist, and it doesn't like heavy bullets.
I do OK with my M1A match rifle and Argentine surplus 308 ball, but it only gets me to about 6-700 yards with any reasonable accuracy (under 2 MOA - but not much under). 168gn SMK over 42.0gn VV N135 get me almost 1 MOA out to 600 with the M1A. I haven't tried anything longer.
The other day I picked up another .308 "Sniper". Here's my new Savage Tactical rifle.
I took the scope off my Rem 700 (posted earlier on this thread) and put it on this rifle instead. Putting a Bushnell on my 700 until I can afford something better.
No picture but it is a Nesika in 300wsm with a 26" Lilja on grey composite stock with Nightforce I will take a few photo's on R&R and put them up. Wife's is a Wichester push feed in 243 win with a Hart barrel on a non prototype McMillan and Nightforce. If you want to hit stuff you spend the money on optics
Thanks for asking. They are both DPMS .308s. The mounted is the steel version. The stand-alone receiver is the original upper that came with the rifle. This rifle is HEAVY!
If you like wood rifles maybe something like the reproduction Remington M40?
Kind of pricey for what it is but you could build your own for less: http://www.remingtonle.com/rifles/m40.htm
or a Remington 700 VLS (laminated stock)
or Remington 700 VS (far right hand side-composite stock)
Querstion about your USO. Is that the #3 windage knob? I'm about to order an ST-10, and am trying to deciode on which windage knob. I am getting the 1/2 MOA EREK.
Yeah, it's the #3. It was the only option available with the SSDS scope, though now, I can get the #3 adjustments (1/4 MOA) with the M40 style knob. If you're getting the 1/2 MOA EREK, than the #3 is probably the best match as you're keeping everything MOA.
Putting a scope on a bolt action (or any other action type) rifle and painting it does not make it a 'sniper' rifle. It does confuse the people who think you shouldn't be allowed to have any firearm into thinking all scoped rifles are evil sniper rifles.
