I'm looking to mount CQB optics on my A3 carbine but not looking to spend more than $300-350, so no ACOGs or whatnot. What would be a good choice?

One of my SU16's has a Truglo 2x red dot that works mighty fine. The dot is small enough for accuracy shooting at 100 yards, and fast enough for shooting poppers from 25-100.

Zak:

By CQB, I meant an optic ideal for shorter distances (i.e. those where a higher-powered scope is not necessary) for target shooting, practice, or defense, just to clarify.

Aimpoint does seem to have a very good reputation....checked out a Stag with an M2 mounted, the optic seemed very nice...

Eotech is definitely the cost effective option. It can take the abuse and since its "mount" is built in, it doesn't have the further hidden costs of an Aimpoint (which is a fantastic product in its own right!).

I want one of these some day: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6840&title=MEPRO+21+REFLEX+SIGHTS

They're good enough for the Israeli army conscripts, and they mount them permanently on the rifles. Plus no battery or mount expenses. I'm sure used ones will be coming soon.

Bushnel has a holo type sight with choices of four dial up dots for
about $50 and Natchez runs them on sale every once in a while:)
I think the smallest dot is 4MOA and they go up in size by turning
a marked knob.

On a real budget I would get a $150 SPOT, which is an aimpoint clone with 3moa dot and shorter battery life.

I also enjoy my Burris fastfire in a LaRue mount, at twice the price but comes with BUIS

Check eBay for a used EOTech or AimPoint, as others have suggested.

You could look at some of the Russian CQB optics, like the Kobra or PK-AS, which can be had, new, for less than the price of a new AimPoint/EOTech and which are good values for the money, I think.

Actually, the Aimpoint isn't that much more. Having to buy an appropriate mount is what makes it more expensive as a whole.

If the budget is a strict $350, probably EOtech. I like those, but Aimpoint is superior.

Me personally, I'd rather just put that sweet XS tritium front post on there with a large rear aperture. Fast. Anything at CQB range is deadmeat. We're talking point and shoot range, but you still prefer to aim type scenario. Dots are nice no doubt, but don't believe they are mandatory for effectiveness.

Lots of Aimpoints coming back from the sandbox and hitting e bay. Exspect $250 for a clean M2 and you usually get some sorta mount. BTW the factory Aimpoint mount on an Aimpoint is the lowest mount I've seen (and plenty strong) and gives a perfect co witness on an Ultimak rail AK, if any one cares.
