The path less chosen...
Ive never used these, but at last theres something other than FMJ's.Sportsmans guide's latest shooters catalog has "Magsafe personal defense ammo" in 7.62x25.They call it the Tok defender and its a 52 grain BB type load heading down range at 2120 FPS for 519 ft lbs of energy.Magsafe is advertised as 'breaks up on impact generating deep-penetrating secondary missles"
Part # is HX3A-39399
Expensive- 8 rounds is $12.97!!!

2120 FPS. That just has to make you grin. That's some serious speed from a handgun.
I like it.

Don't think I would bother carrying it in my gun, even if it was cheaper... but the neato factor is pretty high.

Actually, Im dissapointed with the #'s. The speed is plenty fast but not for a 52 gr load. An average Tok load has that much energy.....the stout stuff is in the 600+ FPE range....
Why cant we just get a 95-100 gr JHP that expands when hitting @ 2000 FPS :D  :what:
Shoot well

I think there is mention of a Cor-Bon load in 7.62 x 25 on the
Stopping Power forum. There are some people who actually carry
CZ52 and really need a good defensive load other than hardball.

Fairbain made note of the .30 Mauser cartridge. He said the chinese
gangsters were very afraid of getting shot with it .

Where is the best place to buy a CZ52??

I've come to the conclusion that the 7.62x25mm Tok is a round in need of a good platform from which to launch it. The CZ 52 suffers from bad (commie) ergonomics, sights, and some flaws that can only be fixed with after-market parts such as new springs and firing pins.

For this round to really shine in the accuracy department, someone needs to design a pistol with better ergonomics and safety features.

No kiding. Maybe a Beretta Couger with double stack high cap mags... Or a CZ-97. There you go!
Still... the gun I really want in 7.62 TOK... a Bizon.

And better strength and capacity. Sounds like the CZ52 barrel really sucks strengthwise.

Right... that's why Clark in the other CZ-52 thread posted a picture and an account of a 7.62MM Tok CZ-52 that was mistakenly fed and fired a 9MM round with no loss of fingers or damage to the shooter or gun. Interesting that, isn't it? From such a weak barrel. tsk tsk tsk. (Lets not forget a great deal of luck!)
No, the problem with the 52 is that the barrel needs better tollerances and a crown. I little thicker in the barrel wouldn't hurt either.

The single bright star in the 7.62x25 crown is penetration.

So, the first "defense load" for this caliber is one that minimizes penetration?

IMO, we're still waiting...

I've yet to come across any information or experience that would point to the barrels being prone to failure.

HOWEVER, if you don't replace the recoil spring with a stiffer after market one, you will eventually have problems if you shoot hot ammo through it. The force of the recoil will batter the left side of the barrel against the inside of the slide where it will wear away the metal that retains the roller. To my knowledge this isn't dangerous but it is annoying as all get out, and makes the pistol even more of a pain to field strip and reassemble.

As for designing a new pistol for this round, the million dollars will go to whoever can design a halfway decent grip for the pistol. The biggest point against the round is it's overall length, which is even longer than the 10mm.

A matching carbine that takes the same mags would also make for a mighty swell companion, too.

7.62 x 25 Defense load...

I wouldn't want to be down range from my CZ52 w/85gr ball coming out of it...

Then again, with it's 12# trigger and 40 oz weight, I'd be happier carrying my Mak' w/Barnaul JHP...

The CZ52 is a great little shootable collectible, gets lots of attention at the range (especially indoors...big bang, bright flash), and challenges your abilities...not very easy to shoot strait.

I love mine, and bought most of what Karl Bloss at www.makarov.com had to customize it...but it is what it is...

Best wishes,

CZ52'

With the after market firing pin the trigger pull is a bit better... after a lot of shooting it gets even more better. (more better?) Or maybe you just get used to it. It's not the most accurate gun. Minute of Apple at 15 yards. Good enough for 90 % of the gun fights recorded. I think the main problem is the sights. Because you can get about a 3 inch group if you benchrest it with good lighting.

Hornady makes .308 diameter 90 gr XTPs. If you reload, you can make Tok JHPs. A friend of mine tested them, they expaned to about .60 caliber...

At a local shop is a good condition 1911 with a 7.62X25 barrel that is a 'Chinese returned capture pistol'! For $525 for a Remington Rand 1911A1! Where the heck did these come back thru?:what: :what: :what:

these guys make quality loads with brand name bullets in 7.62x25. they also make the .223 timbs, which is a 7.62x25 loaded with a remmington accelerator sabot and a 50gr .223 caliber bullet at over 2000fps. You can order ammo from them in any combination or bullet you want (no you can't get ss109 loaded timbs, i asked :D).
