Kahr PM9 Poll

Mine's run like a top from day one. Tough to beat for caliber and size. A good quality gun for sure.

900 various type rounds through it with not one problem. Great pistol!

mine has 490 rounds through it with 9 failures, 7 of which from the same ammo (hunting shack commercial reloads). i haven't made a determination yet whether it's reliable or not, but as of right now, i'm leaning toward reliable. only time will tell though ...

Mine (purchased March 2006) had serious functioning problems. The firing pin block plunger would hang up on the rear of the frame, causing the slide to not return to battery about 40% of the time. Since A - I generally believe in giving people a second chance, and B - no other gun shares this gun's combination of attributes, I e-mailed Dottie Herold (who seems to be the customer service department) and got a return authorization. They replaced the barrel and recoil spring and it has been fine ever since. It did take nearly a month to get back, and I did pay the initial shipping charge from here to there, although they paid the charge from there to here.

Whenever someone is looking for a full-caliber yet still pocket-sized pistol, I always recommend the PM9.

I carry mine......a lot.

400+ rounds run through it both dirty and clean, everything from blazer fmj's to CorBon DPX +P, not a single jam. Accuracy is solid, and recoil isn't bad. As you might guess, I'm very pleased. I carry it anytime a 1911 isn't convenient.

About 2k through it. Not a single problem even in the 200 rd break in period. Also, most of it has been CCI blazer and not the most disiplened of cleaning regiments. Needless to say, I like it

It's my favorite gun. A few thousand rounds of mix-n-match, no issues, accurate. Best pocket piece out there, imho.

Well, mine needed more than the 200 rounds recommended for break in. After that it was reliable.

Mine is reliable, but after using +P ammo.

I voted reliable but mine failed to return to battery quite often during the first 200 rounds. I called Kahr customer service and discussed the issue. They sent me a new barrel and recoil spring & guide rod. It has been reliable since then.

I've not had it long, but it's been totally reliable through the 200 round break-in plus about 50 more. The only problem I've had is it doesn't like to hand cycle through some brands of FMJ (it's like the OAL is too long, it jams between the ejector and the side of the barrel upon ejection), but others fine and all HP fine. Doesn't bother me though b/c I won't be carrying FMJ, and even if I was I won't be handcycling it when I need to use it.

I'm sure you're right about the 27's and the m&p's reliability, but for 99% of people including myself you can't fit a 27 or a compact M&P into your pocket comfortably. For many pocket carry is the preferred method of packing, and in that case you need a very diminutive gun that won't print with a good holster, and also will allow you to still be comfortable to do all of your daily activities. I'd much rather have my Kahr in my pocket than any other gun in the world that was too big to carry with me the day I would need it.



(And before I get bashed, I'm not saying that the 27 or the compact M&P are too big to use as your CCW, just that they are too big for most people to pocket carry.)

imabballer: I agree with you the M&P or Glock 27 is too big for pocket carry. A good IWB or belt holster is in order for those.

Bought mine last year at a pawn shop, slightly used with 4 mags. Haven't had a problem with over 500 rounds fired.

I love my PM9, and carry it about nine months per year (the part of the year we call "summer").

It is far more accurate (in my hands) than any of the j-frames I used to carry, it holds seven rounds vice five, reloads quicker and recoils less (even with 127 gr +p+).

I trust my life to my PM9. I can think of no higher endorsement.

Agreed! And the sights you can actually see and the lighter trigger pull contribute to the accuracy.

There is just no other gun on the market with this one's combination of attributes.

I did not vote in this poll since I don't own a PM9. I do, however, own a P9 and want to make a comment.

The results of this poll are virtually identical to the 4 or 5 previous polls that have asked about poly Kahrs -- 25-30% of the participants reported significant reliability problems. I've said it before, that high a failure rate is simply unacceptable for a premium priced handgun.

I plan to replace my P9 as soon as I find a suitable alternative. I can't wait to get my hands on a Walther PPS so I can see how it feels.

RNB65, you are assuming a high rate of veracity within the poll. There may be some problems, but a random internet poll doesnt tell us much. Even if the results arent skewed there is not enough anecdotal evidence to suggest whether there was neglect/abuse in certain cases or not. I'm not saying you're wrong, sir, but I am suggesting caution when taking these polls as close to gospel truth.
