New Rifle, Remmy 521-T

That's a sweet rifle. Looks great, bet it shoots great too. You'll have to do lots of ammo testing to find out what it likes best. FWIW, all my Rems like the Rem Golden Bullet pretty well, but a lot of people hate that stuff. Wolf MT shoot great in just about anything.

As for the date, I can't tell that those are ever letters. Have you taken off the stock to make sure they aren't just below the wood line? They shouldn't be, but there should be 2 or 3 identifiable letters. Then you can check the sticky under the Remington forum at rimfirecentral.com. Also, try posting the question over there, if there was some reason why there wouldn't be a standard date code on it, RFC will have the answer.

P.S. You know that now you need a 510, 511, 512, and 513 to complete the series that was built on that receiver...right?

Basically looks like my 512X but with a box mag rather than tube mag. I never did the trigger and mine is a little stiff, but crisp. I don't like too light, below 3 lbs, for a gun that even MIGHT be used in the field. You have no feel of the sear when it's that light, especially the thicker your gloves get.

Nice rifle and if it's like my 512, it's nearly match grade accuracy. Pretty amazing rifles for field grade guns. Wish Remington still made some of those old bolt models. Only criticism of mine is the bolt doesn't lock down on safety and that's cost me a squirrel or two over the years. LOL Rifle accuracy was NEVER a problem. My gun shoots ANYTHING well. It don't care too much for stinger and it REALLY shoots those one holers with RWS Target. It likes RWS as well as Eley Match which is twice the price. On a calm day (3x9 scoped), I can put cheap crap Federal Lightening bulk pack into 1.5" groups at 100 yards, though, really amazing old guns. The 541 is still around and a great firearm, after all. But, they really BUILT 'em back then.

Welcome to the 521T club. Like you, I have my dad's 521T. Mine was produced in 1962. When I first got this gun off went the junko scope that had been on for years and on went a quality rimfire scope.

The difference was breath-taking. Here's a target shot at 50m and done without much effort. This is the beginning of a wonderful time with this gun.

Commander Guineapig, Remington made 521-T's between 1947 and 1969. The stamp on top of the barrel should say it's a Remington 521-T, "Junior Special". I'm not sure where they put the serial#'s on those.

Mine was made sometime between 1947 and 1954. It's wearing a Lyman 57RS and 17A.

I just remembered the other thing I was going to say... on accuracy, my 521-T didn't do all that well with Federal or Remington bulk pack. It did excellent with Winchester Xpert bulk. First time I sat down at the bench testing loads with it, at 25yds, this rifle put 8 out of 10 rounds into the top half of a 1" circle. The remaining two round went a little high. Sorry, no photos in existence.

Have one that was my father's - a present back in the 1940s. Awfully accurate (as in good).
