Easy way to tell. Handle the rifle next to a standard rifle. You can absolutely feel the difference. Or, pop it on a scale. It should be one lb off.

I have an armscorp M14 NM SAK chrome bbl, h&r Tg. Love it. 2moa and under 1500. Found mine on Gunbroker for 1422 shipped. Good luck finding what you're looking for, took me a year...

Springfield Armory lists the weight of the M1A Standard as 9.3lbs and the M1A Loaded as 9.8lbs. The National Match is also 9.8lbs. I think the difference should be closer to 0.5 lbs.

Part of it is that a Loaded either comes with a USGI synthetic stock that is painted black by SAI or a Boyds commercial Match-grade stock.

So the Loaded that has the lightweight synthetic may be one-half pound heavier than a Standard with a synthetic stock.

Point. I'm not sure which stock the NM has, but it seems likely that it is a Boyd's "Does this stock make me look fat?" deal. It seems larger than spec. The Standard wears a USGI wood stock.

though the scout is my favorite and it would do what you need it too, if i was shotig at those ranges regularly i would go with the loaded model, get a few ugrades over the standard and have some money left over compared to some of the models for extra mags ammo and such.

Scout

esq_stu I'm real interested in owning an M1A.

I want to use it for targets at 100 yd to 300 yd. I am not looking for competition accuracy.

The 18.0" barrel will accurately reach out beyond 600 yards, 100 yd to 300 yd will be a cake walk for the Scout.
