Question for M1A/M14 Owners

I too recently purchased an M1A Scout.

While the iron sights are great, for my eyes they are not the best option.

I have and Aimpoint CompM4, a Micro T-1, and a Trijicon MA-03 red dot. All will mount to the scout rail.

I'm so disappointed with the Trijicon that, I'll probably just mount on my Browning Buckmark if I don't sell it.

The Micro T-1 is excellent. The biggest problem is that its almost to small for me at that scout mount distance. I do like it.

The CompM4 is what I like best. Its very easy to acquire a target with out to 200 yds. Bigger glass, crisp clean dot. I can still get a good-cheek weld. It's muck easier to work than irons.
If the time comes, you can always put the on it 3x too.

(pardon the poor quality phone cam pic)

well, if you have the scout i would either go with the red dot or irons. putting a scope on a scout is a little overkill IMO. irons will be more accurate than a red dot but a red dot will be more fast. it all depends on how you use the gun. if it were me....i would get the ultimak rail and put an aimpoint on it so i could use both irons and red dot. that set up make the most sence for a scout. that set up looks pretty cool as well!

Assuming you don't leave it alone, I'd convert the iron sights to the XS sights that they use on the SOCOM. For 100 yards or under, I like these sights better. For longer distances, I'd get the forward mounted Leupold 2.5X Scout Scope and Leupold quick detachable rings. This way, you have the best of both worlds, a scope that you can shoot got longer distances and can easily be removed if you break it or need the rifle for close up work.

Love my Scout!! :D

The irons are great inside 75, maybe 100 yards with my eyes. Past that I gotta have help. Could not find a red dot that did right for me. Got a Leupold Scout scope and it's okay. Looks good, shoots good but makes a little front heavy and takes some adjusting to the glass way down there.

Here's a pic of the hairs at 2.5x...

The latest for my Scout is an ARMS 18 receiver mount. Said to never lose zero and it has a channel for using the irons after a quick detach of the scope or using peep rings. Took the plunge so i hope this rig works out. Looking for the right scope and rings now. Using the irons until then. Here's todays pics...
