A Florida theft suspect was arrested Friday on firearms charge after police discovered photos of a young girl holding a gun on his cell phone, according to a report.

Toby Allen, 30, a five-time felon, was under investigation for the alleged robbery of equipment from his employer, a lawn maintenance company, when Brevard County Sheriff's detectives found pictures of an unidentified 6-year-old child posing with a pistol with her finger on the trigger, MyFOXOrlando.com reported.

Other photos display Allen with an SKS rifle, according to the report.

“It’s alarming to say the least,” Detective Steve Hill told MyFOXOrlando.com. “While the photos are not enough make a case for a child abuse charge, we are very concerned about Allen’s actions and are continuing to investigate.”

Allen and a roommate were arrested without incident during a raid on his home, MyFOXOrlando reported.

I think the issue is that he is a convicted felon and had possesion of a firearm, not that the child had the guns--although I'm sure the media will continue to blur these issues.

I've been watching this all day on our local news station,I live on merritt island on the coast just north of palm bay. This guy is a convicted felon for previous firearm violations and the girl wasn't his daughter and the parents supposedly knew nothing about the pics. FWIW if anyone let my son handle a gun without my knowledge when he was 6 years old he would be in for a world of hurt and then I would call the law.

Amen.

There is a world of difference between this and a responsible parent introducing a kid to the shooting sports in a safe and appropriate manner.

The article headline is wrong!

There is no reason posing a child with a firearm should get anyone in trouble.

Being a felon with a gun is what he is in trouble for

Adult forcing a child not his own into doing something child/parent does not approve of is what will get a person in trouble

I actually kind of agree...

It's one thing if the kid is old enough to know safe firearm handling rules, and you are teaching them how to shoot.

It's another thing when I see people on THR putting a gun in a baby/very young child's hands and taking a novelty picture. A 3 year old does not know how to be safe with a gun, so don't let them (force them to) "handle" them.

First off, he's a scumbag that needed to be picked up, and I'm glad they got him.

However, I wonder what the article would say if they saw this:

The original is around here somewhere but this 'shopped version is pretty funny.

I wish that I had pics (rather than videos) of my neighbor's with their grandson at my house last summer. The grandson is 4 and he got to shoot a bullpup-style .22LR from my deck at a target. He had a great time time and things were handled w/extreme safety. The tot was given a complete lesson before we loaded the gun and the grandps's hands never left the weapon. The parents weren't here (Grandma/Gandpa babysitting) but were asked about if it would be OK. That kid must have gone thru 200 rounds. Shoot - load, shoot - load, shoot - load............ well, you get the picture. I doubt that there's a limit to a 4 yr. old's enthusiasm!!

I see Gixerman's son and mine have the same taste in firearms.

That or more likely 2 father's just lost their PS 90s :)
