I tried to sign up at arfcom -But they would not accept my E-mail [email protected] as an e-mail they wanted something like outlook express -I wrote to them asking why and recieved the most stupid condecending arrogant answer I have ever gotten..
Im Happy they refused my application!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hear they are BAN crazy also--
Sounds like a bunch of trap shooters with Benellies and perazzies -Talking down the guy with a mossburg

I think both forums have far too much vendor influence and that a fair share of the vendors in the ar15 business are not the kind of people I like to do business with. I like to get my ar15 info here as much as possible. Its much better when the guys selling stuff aren't the ones pulling the strings.

Could you elaborate more?

Free email services such as Yahoo, Gmail are not allowed. They help keep trolls out.

I won't go dragging any names through the mud without having links to the specific examples I've read but my experience has been that neither board tolerates much negative criticism of their sponsors, even when well deserved. You'll also notice that at least 1 vendor is no longer welcome on 1 site (and I think for good reason) and is a frequent poster to the other. You'll have to make your own call but the ar vendors seem very cut throat and I believe they run both forums because they pay. Ymmv.

avoid gd on arfcm it is heated and generally unpleasant at the moment with politics and dc and chicago.

They seem to be very knowledgeable although vendors have influence, the build an ar program when it comes off the basics will be great for a builder but is limited at this point, spike tactical seem to be popular.

General Discussion on AR15 is terrible, say something even remotely liberal and you're immediately branded a troll. Other than that, the rest of the site is good, I've gotten so many good deals on the Equipment Exchange forums already.

There's a lot of misconceptions about ar15.com

It's not really as bad as all that. There really is a lot of good stuff in there, and the junk you have to wade through is almost exclusively limited to GD. It is not The High Road, and as great as THR is, they serve different purposes.

There is a lot of technical information on ar15.com, there are a LOT of very knowledgeable people (I know we have several folks here who know everything about one topic or another and are capable of helping many people), and if you have thick skin there is a lot of... drama which can keep you entertained when you have time to kill (especially if you are entertained by the stupidity of others).

And ultimately, who isn't? ;)

I like just lurking on the ARFCOM GD. It's a very non-High Road guilty pleasure.

As has been said, the rest of the site is great. Also, I have had great success as a buyer and occasional seller on the Equipment Exchange.

For the BM fans, read this: http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=13532

ARFCOM to me has always been full of kids, airsofters and general weekend, dirt shooting commandos. Are their good, knowledgeable members on there? Sure are. The problem is that there are 10,000 idiots drowning out the good posts.

M4C is setup for the professional shooter or civy's that are interested in having the most reliable gear for personal defense. The forum is also heavily geared towards training and knowledge sharing. It is also just about the only forum that Larry Vickers posts on. So basically, the signal to noise ratio is very low.

LOL this is true of almost EVERY firearm site

Nope AFRCOM'ers don't like us at all,

That's not true. I and many others post at THR and Arfcom and TFL. If you have thin skin Arf GD is NOT for you. Just stick to the tech forums and you will be fine :D

Oh, cause I have read of few post in GD and there is some animosity there,

Most of it has to do with the Mods there are real loose, and the Mods here are uh, not so loose, is that the right way to phrase it?

I will go against the grain (so It seems) and say ARFCOM. Sure, some sections of the site are full of, what seems to be, fratboys; but there are alot of well versed individuals that frequent ARFCOM. I've gained alot of knowledge from siphoring thru the bull**** on that site.

Personally, I don't visit AR15.com much anymore because I just do not enjoy wading through the flame wars, childish comments, and other problems that plague ANY internet website of that size.

Having said that, there is no question in my mind that AR15.com is THE authoritative resource on ARs and many other subjects as well. They are usually the first with any significant news and if you have the patience to mine the 40 page threads for the 10 informative posts, they provide a lot of insight.

I now prefer the smaller websites like 10-8 and Lightfighter because the signal to noise ratio is better and there is enough cross-posting with AR15.com that someone else who has done the dirty work of mining the ARF threads will link you to the important stuff. The interesting question to me is whether AR15.com will continue to be a good source of knowledge in the future; because the sheer amount of highly knowledgable people who used to contribute and stopped visiting over the years is shocking. It seems to me like ARFCOM has bled off a lot of the more knowledgable members to other sites with less drama and hassle.

Good heavens! Two pages of discussion about arfcom before someone used the phrase "signal to noise ratio!"

:scrutiny:

Anyway, if you have a tech, and especially an AR-15 tech question burning in your head, typing "site:ar15.com" followed by the relevant search parameters is a pretty good way to scratch the itch. Google will actually go some distance into the archives there, and if you're just lurking the forums without an account you can't search or even skip back to those in most cases. Also, since you're using a search engine with specified technical terms, you'll solve a lot of the signal/noise problem.

Now, someone needs to make a firefox search bar plug-in that automatically searches the militaryphotos, thehighroad, thefiringline, ar15, m4carbine and 6.5 grendel archives and sorts the results based on a few automated criteria of technical relevance, average post length, pictures, and mall-ninja coefficient.

"dirt shooting commandos"

:)

Thank you. Mind if I borrow it?

Being a one-gun AR owner, I visit the Rock River forum at ar15.com to see what questions the factory rep is answering. The rest of the time there I just have to get lucky to find posts by folks with experience and credentials. Same with the other forum, but all large forums have too much to wade through.
