Does everyone have it this bad in the beginning?

I have not stopped thinking about guns, Conceal Cary, which gun to buy for carry, which holster, what courses to take, self defense.... I have read every forum out there, researched 1000 different handguns, and just take every minute that I can to read something about handguns.

I am in Northern VA, and applied for CCW on Monday. I acutally think I said in my sleep last night "no, a .380 is not enough", and my wife woke up and said "what". "I didnt say anything, go back to sleep".

I saw a LEO (an acronym I just learned a month ago) today in plain clothes with a holdstered glock. I couldnt help but to stare at his set up.

Ive been into guns since sixth grade and Im still like that.:D

I guess this is as good a place to make my first post as any.

Ive been lurking here for a while, and Im glad I finally found a place with others that have my addiction!!

Im totally with you on nonstop thinking about guns.

Ive been a hunter and clay shooter since I can remember, but recently got bit by the handgun bug, and wow, yeah.. thats about all I can say!!

Im not as bad as some here, but Im definately addicted!

you usually end up with about 3-7 holsters / gun...
See this is why I tend to stick w/ Handguns of similar patterns. I can use the same Pancake for all 3 of my 1911's and both BHP's. My IWB kydex will also take all 5 of these, and by tightening the screws, my StarBM as well. My small IWB fits my S&WMod60, CZ70, and Kahr40 I'm considering.

I have a mature collection--something for every niche out there pretty much--even duplicates of some----yet I have 2 guns on lay-a-way that I'd said I would never own again.:what:

Basicblur,

I did sign up for the vcdl emails, and will look for their table at the show - thanks

I had it that bad back in the early 50's when I was 7 years old. Every feed store and hardware store sold guns and ammo, I picked up every brochure and catalog and ammo ballistics chart I could find. I had memorized the Winchester-Western ammunition tables by the time I was 9. I bought my 1st set of dies when I was 11 along with Lyman #41. I still have a lot of that stuff and it is still good. I promise never to recover!!!

That's pretty much how my progression into the gun craze went...I'm basically still there, but I can control it better now.

Yep, ya got it bad...

But don't worry, it's nothing a little time and a lot of money won't take care of. :what:

It's probably good you have an army retirement check. Otherwise you would have to get a part time job to feed the need.

Uh, anyone got any leads on a good part time gig?

Money says you will someday utter these words....

This is the last one

Honey, you won't believe the great deal I found

This saving money stuff is kinda fun

Gotta get one before they ban it

Early Christmas gift
Early birthday gift
A gift for working so hard

and on, and on....................sorry pal you now have IT, and there is no 12 step program for IT:evil:

Oh yeah. Look how many posts I have on a gun related internet board for crying out loud! :p I think about guns about as often as I think about sex.......thus there is no room in my mind for anything else.....

Clearly you are not alone and most everyone has it "this bad" at first if not for the rest of our lives. I will warn you though, unless you have an unlimited supply of funds think before you purchase. If you have not done so yet you will find yourself hitting you in the forehead and saying "Wow, I coulda had a ..."

you are not alone..WELCOME!!! but it will not stop there, probably soon when you read something all you will see is guns...like when I see the Scott & White logo (hospital in Texas) I always think Smith and Wesson and that's not the only one....welcome and happy hunting

Welcome to THR. Soon you'll be thinking about getting a p/t job to fund your addiction. When that isn't enough, you'll start selling off your other non gun-related stuff, when that money is gone, you'll dip into your savings or try to convince your kids that college is overrated and that they should just go and get a job so you can hit the college funds. It just goes downhill from there.

As another friend of mine put it, it would probably have been cheaper to start smoking crack.

I bought my first gun, a S&W 640, in mid-april, and a wall safe to put it in.
My second gun, a Glock 30, in May.
My third gun, a Taurus PT1911, in June.
My first rifle, a Ruger 10/22, in June.
A floor safe in June.

An assortment of holsters, gun belts, over $1000 worth of ammo, a few classes at the range, the expense of the CHL course, and application fees.

I had to promise myself not to buy an AR until after bonus time.

Oh, and i just bought a .22LR conversion kit for my Glock so i can practice with cheaper ammo at the range.

because of my holsters not fitting in anything but their own closet? i have over 700 holsters.... where would you put them ?

Honestly, I'd put about 697 of them on eBay...that's how I rid myself of anything that does not suit my purposes (especially surplus holsters. PT Barnums's theory thrives on eBay).

omg. whatever you do dont get into reloading. it just gets worse

you learn how to reload your own ammo. YOu start reloading ammo. Then you go shoot what you made. Then you find out how good you did. then you rush home to load them again. In the end you make as much as you can and cant wait to go shoot them so you can reload them. Then at the range your always looking for brass to reload. Its an addiction click on the link on the bottom of this post.

Then FEED THE ADDICTION

scrat, I don't reload -- yet -- but I have been saving up all my .38 spl brass.

I plan to do so eventually.

I haven't been saving the .45 brass because I have read a lot that says never use reloads in Glocks.

Reloading is the real demon. I have a holster or two for some guns; some aren't meant for much more than the range and live in their original boxes. I have 5g buckets labeled "40 brass" and drawers labeled "primer pick-up tubes." The entire top of a closet is a "powder locker." It gets worse from there, but at least you get to shoot more.

Oddly enough it sounds like we are all long lost brother here... My wife just rolls her eyes at me now when I tell her I'm off to the range or off to the gun store.

My beginning goes back a ways. However, about 15 years ago I started getting interested again in just shooting and not strictly buying a firearm specifically for a defined purpose.... that first year, I bought something like 21 guns. Some got sold eventually. Most stayed.
