In the Gravest Extreme by Massad Ayoob should be read first. Then read whatever you want

I also thought that David Kenick's book, Armed Response: A Comprehensive Guide to Using Firearms for Self Defense, is an excellent book.

I have also found that Dave Spaulding's work (he has several books and numerous magazine articles) to be well researched and just makes sense.

Don't forget Ayoob's book, The Truth About Self Protection.
