Hey guys (that includes gals too ;) ),

First off, I am a big guy. I frequently CC in my front pocket w/o a holster. While I believe the risk is low (it is on safe), there is still a risk of an ND/AD since the trigger isn't covered.

I'm looking for a pocket holster for the USP 40. For most people this is somewhat absurd, so I don't know that they are manufactured to a great extent.

Anyone know of one?

Thanks,

java

Fobus makes a real nice Kydex one. I carry my USP 40 in one, had it for years w/o issue. You can get 'em in Paddle or belt slide

I've had an Uncle Mike's pocket holster for my 642 for years. works great, keeps the pistol upright, and stays in the pocket when you draw.

I have to say though, you must be a true mountain of a man to be able to CCW a pistol that size in your front pocket! wow!

Here is a pocket holster I made for a customers and his Glock 19. It fit fine in my cargo shorts front pocket and could have been carried if I needed to, but it was too heavy for me to carry.

The #4 is the biggest, and yet only for "compact" 9mm's so it is unlikely your USP 40 would fit. Also, I've had mixed results with compact holsters. Sometimes they don't grip the pocket as well as the gun and the holster comes out with the gun...which could lead to an embarrassing, if not dangerous scenario. This situation is worse with smaller pocket holsters. Smaller holsters also allow the gun to get oriented wrong...fall forward or backward. The Uncle Mike's only covers the barrel and trigger and isn't wide like others so I think it would be worse for this problem.

I have carried bigger guns in cargo pants. The guns sliding forward or backwards so they aren't easy to access is one problem....the weight of the heavy gun banging around is the other.

Note the advantage of the holster "gunnut" made. It's wider lower portion helps disguise the outline and it keeps it from rotating as easily. Unfortunately, that design can also be a problem with pockets that don't have square bottoms.

The craziest "pocket" holster I've seen, designed for cargo pants, is one where you access the holster through the pants. You cut a hole in the inside of the cargo pocket to allow the holster to hang down and inside the pocket from a waist belt. This keeps handles the weight problem of a pocket holster.

Try FIST, I have one of their kydex pocket holsters for my Glock 27 and it is superb, I'm sure he would make a pocket holster for the USP.

I use a Uncle Mike's size 1 every day for my P32. My HKUSP45C, though, is far too big for me to consider pocket carry. In fact, it took a back seat to a Kimber UCDP and was relegated to HD duty. Hell, my G26 is too big for most pockets, except coats.
