Marlin 60 Ammo

ive got a Marlin 60 too and it'll eat up anything i put in it

I usually use the Federal bulk pack that theyve got a walmart

I got a stainless 60 a couple months ago after a year or two of casual research.
First, good choice, you won't regret getting a 60.
Second,the majority of 60 owners, on multiple forums, seem to recommend the Federal bulk .22 from Wally world,as camoman just stated above.
Third, Remington bulk ammo is widely considered the dirtiest and most unreliable .22 bulk ammo around. I recently stumbled on a bunch that I'd put away a while back, and as expected, it was noticably inconsistent.
In bulk ammo, I and a couple freinds have been very happy lately with the Winchester bulk from Wallly World.
Also, keep in mind,lower velocity ammo is often more accurate than the higher velocity stuff. For instance,check out CCI standard velocity or Remington sub-sonics.
If you're willing to spend the money, there is a lot of better performing ammo out there : most anything from CCI,Eley,Wolf,etc.

No two rifles will shoot the same ammo the same way. Nor will two like rifles, necessarily, cycle the action with the same ammo. You have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your new rifle will both shoot well and cycle the action. .22's are just like that.

My Marlin 60 eats any 22 lr I've fed it. Federal Target seems to be the most accurate but not by much.

I have had a number of model 60s and can tell you that all but 1 were very forgiving when it comes to eating ammo. Basic bulk stuff generally works well, not that there are not differences in accuracy and feeding, but most will take just about anything you feed them and shoot it pretty well.

i only use federal bulk pack, but thats because my ruger mk II is picky. my marlin eats remington as well.

+1 on the winchester wildcats.

for brand new, first, fire a brick of anything hi velocity, copperwashed, solid points. shoot all of it, as fast as you can stand it. this will break it in. then clean , lightly lube around the bolt assy.,and the recoil rod, maybe a bit inside the receiver, around the bolt assy.
then your best bets for 22 ammo are this;
nothing remington. unless it is orange box or yellow box, which is made by Eley.
anything Eley.
anything CCI. not bulk , though.
anything Aguila.
anything wolf.
anything golden eagle.
American Eagle red box.
anything winchester.
the only bulk ammo that you should use would be winchester, or Federal.
Lastly, and once again, nothing remington.

Wierd, my MKII (bolt, i know) shoots GOOD with athat stuff. For semi autos, the federal is better, due to copper bullet plating. Feeds better, my semi loves it.

I'm STILL gnawing my way through a brick of Remington's Vipers.I'll never do THAT again.

I just got through with testing my M60 off a rest a 50 yards using a 7X scope, with 5 different kinds of ammo. The short story is CCI Green Tab (expensive) is first. Federal Target and Blazer were tied for second. Fed Bulk was third.

My rifle has fed and shot everything I have put through it flawlessly.

One of the reasons I shoot off a rest occasionally is to reassure myself that the rifle is much more capable than the shooter.:}

Fed bulk works great in mine, Remington worked, but was dirty which led to a few FTE issues. I have a bunch of Winchester that I have not tried yet.

Same here. I go with whatever is cheapest.

+1 on Remington being the worst. It's dirty. The loads are inconsistent. It's dirty. And most of all it's dirty. And it isn't that accurate either. Plus it's dirty.

My Marlin 60 and 975 also eat anything fed, good guns and worth the price you quoted. I'd get it.

i have 2 and the best advise i can give you is dont buy any remington thunderbolts dont know about any other remington ammo cause i just wont shoot it if it says remington anymore.

i use federal bulk stuff for pop cans and cci mini mags for hunting (more accurate) sometimes i feed it a few cci stingers as a treat.

My marlin must be stupid because it doesn't know it's not supposed to like remington golden bullets. As another twist it HATES federal bulk pack. I bought a box of the stuff this year as I was getting low on my remington golden bullets from 3 years ago and It turned into a filthy jamo-matic if I hadn't had the rifle so long and know what it actually shot like(frickin sweet) I would have thought the rifle was a piece of crap. Low and behold I buy brand new box of remington and it shoots just great again no jams/ftf coons beware I'm a comin ta get ya.
