I have been researching and testing various sub compact .40 caliber pistols and am curious what other people's thoughts are on the subject. I want a solid weapon that will last me a lifetime. I've shot the springfield xd sub-compact 40, the smith and wesson .40 sub compact, and the glock 27. I really like the springfield but have heard that after 1000 rounds it starts to jam.

What sub compact .40 cal would you recommend? Why?

The rumor you heard of an XD-SC in .40 S&W starting to jam up after 1000 rounds, at least in my hands, is false. I've got at least 1500 rounds through it and I bought it very gently used so it's higher than that even. I practice with mine near every time I go to the range as I it is the one gun I need to be the best with. From what you've listed, you can't really go wrong with any of them. I really like my XD but those M&Ps are very nice too.

All three of those are very well made pistols, my first Glock was a 27 (just got it a slightly bigger brother, the 23) and I absolutely love it. I would pick the Glock over the others because it seems to be the tightest package, shortest slide height, and it has a longer barrel than the XD, but is still short enough for the government. Mine is very accurate.

Oh boy, if an XD-40sc is supposed to start jamming after 1,000 rounds, nobody told my little gun. I'd say I have between 1,500-2,000 rounds through mine and cannot remember a single hiccup from the time I pulled it out the factory box and put the first magazine through it. I trust my life to it. VERY reliable firearm.

I have m@p fullsize and compact in 40 s@w works . you can use full size mags if you need more ammo:D:D

I second the XD40SC. They are an excellent choice. I've never heard the rumor that they jam up after 1000 rounds... maybe you were talking to a glock enthusiast:) I don't think it would jam up even if you only cleaned it once a year:)

Another Posed Question

man i'm getting SO excited. i've been thinking about this for a year and am now ready to move forward.

so, now the question is when should I buy? with the economy still tumbling and gun sales at an all time high, should I wait? thoughts?

Heh heh. You SOUND excited.

If you wanna start enjoying it soon, well... you'd have to get it soon. If you really need to save 30 or 40 bucks, the price MAY come down in the coming months. Or maybe not.

I really like my XD. Like others have said, no problems at all after about 2k rounds.

Glock is good, I have an xd40sc well over 1000 rds and never a glitch. Either way with the sub compact get a mag extension like Pearson so your pinky finger is supported and be happy.

I you like Glocks the G27 is hard to beat, if you don't you should give a serious look at the M&P40C. Carries very well & shoots excellent. Lifetime warranty. My favorite compact .40 is a Sig P239 SA/DA, the only downside is reduced capacity 8 rounds, vs 11 in the S&W.

i have had 2 xd's the one that i have now the service model with almost 13k rds no issues, i am happy as can be with it. i had a xd sc that i liked alot, accurate reliable etc, it had over 1200rds no issues. the only reason i got rid of it, was because i didn't shoot it much, and it didn't really have a purpose in my collection, i carry my service model, and when i don't carry that it is my kahr. sa makes good stuff.

i am not a fan of the mini glocks, so personally i wouldn't own one.

i say go for the xd and don't look back.

Very shocked to hear that someone said the XD jams "ever" Very highly rated weapon. All of the above mentioned are. If you own a Glock you love it. They are just a little too deep in the grip for my hand. I wish I could own one, but I just do not like the feel. I have the XD and love it. The HK is a fine weapon but really expensive. Try to get your hands on each of them and then decide. I live in NY and it is darn near impossible to try out any guns before you buy.

I used to own two XDs..both 4" services, but one was .40s&w and the other was .45acp. The .40 was flawless from the start. The .45 had two FTFs in the first magazine with WWB and was flawless since then.

My brother just got a stainless sub-compact XD .40 and he said it had a few FTF and a couple stove-pipes the first time he took it out. The recoil spring is really stiff, so maybe it hasn't broken in properly..who knows?

I had a Glock 27 (sub-comp .40s&w)that never had a single hiccup. I sold it to my cousin and he still hasn't had any trouble with it.

My other brother's Glock 26 has been flawless too. However, I also had a Glock 19 that had a few FTE in the first couple hundred rounds. It was really easy to limp-wrist so maybe that's why I had the stovepipe FTE issues.

I have moved up to the more expensive H&Ks these days. I sold off all my Glocks too. First, I bought a USP .40 Compact V1 (DA/SA w/ safety + decocker). It has been flawless and by far the most reliable weapon I've ever owned. It inspired me to get a P2000sk 9mm (V2/LEM) for concealed carry and it is also 100% reliable out of the box.

I can't say enough good things about H&Ks. They are very impressive machines. If you are looking for a sub-compact .40, do yourself a favor and check out the P2000sk. It's a fantastic firearm, but it does cost a good $250 more than a Glock or XD. But like with everything else, you get what you pay for.

In general though, the XD SC, Glock 27, or P2000sk would all make for reliable sub-compact .40s. The P2000sk just has that H&K refinement:)

the early xd .45's had some bugs with the mags and i am sure that that was the cause of those issues. sa would replace those defective mags upon request.

sixshooter44,

Congratulations! I too waited, looked reviewed and finally I purchased the same XD40SC just 3 days ago! The challenge for me now is to find a couple different CC holsters for it? I am a lefty and yikes am I ever having trouble finding one! I did manage to find a UM ambidextous clip holster but it is really to bulky, I am having a riding vest modified with a nylon pocket and still looking for a IWB low profile holster.

Looking forward to getting to the range with it!

HAS ANYONE USED the CT grip/laser on this weapon and what about holsters? I would think that there would be no difference in fit do to the grip wrap mounting?

Thanks,

Tim
