I am about to pull the trigger (figuratively speaking) on a Springfield XD Sub Compact in .40 SW. I would appreciate any experience you have had with this pistol before I make the purchase (or don't). Thanks.

Love my XD9 SC. Amazing weapon.

I have not shot the .40 out of that platform. When I bought my XD I felt that the .40 would be a little much out of the gun, hence the 9mm. However, seeing how well it shoots the 9mm, I bet the .40 is not bad at all.

I have sensed that people have more trouble with the .40 then the 9, but that may just be me.

The only recurring problem seems to be that some guns have finish and rust issue. I agree that the finish is not top shelf. However, that is always fixable in the aftremarket.

I was going to have my done as soon as I bought it, but I hesitate to change anything on a gun that has thus far proven so reliable. 2000+ rounds, not one burble.

for full size guns I'd take an XD. For subcompacts, I'd really rather have a glock 26 or 36. The recoil of the 40 in a subcompact gun is hard to manage. I think the more rapid followup shots with a 9mm might outweigh the alledged increased stopping power of the 40 S&W. Also I think the XDSC's are too blocky to make better carry guns than the g26 and 27

Look at the Sub with the Mag extension (pinkey rest) next to the 4" service .40 they are the same height, if you can shoot it without the extension it would conceal better, but if you want the extension you might as well get the service model. They are both nice though I went with the service model for the above reasons.

I have the .40 service, od green, with dawson adjustable sights. Love the gun and it shoots great, but not for IPSC Limited 10 so I am selling it to finance my ipsc shooting (my son is hogging my SA Trophy Match so I'm "needing" another 1911!). I really love everything about the XD though. Let me know if your interested in a service model.

I have the 9mm and agree that the .40 would be a little stout...a bit of a learning curve to use it due to the flip on it. I chose the 9mm. Whatever you're comfortable learning with.

I am going to be purchasing the XD sub 40 as my everyday carry. I love the way it fits in my hand. I will then purchase the 9mm EFK barrel (when available). This is a drop-in barrel (no smithing). Therefore I will have two guns in one.

In reference to above post....

That is probably the same thing that I will do. As of now, I have the 4" XD in 357SIG and I have the 9mm barrel for it as well.

Off-topic - anyone know how to quote on this board? (other than typing the code manually) I can't seem to find the button.

Xd - Service - Sub Compact

I own both the XD service 4†and the sub compact 3†in 9mm. I have never had a problem with either of them. The service is use for training and field work with the sub compact as my everyday CC. The 40 SW should be just a little bit stouter on the recoil but manageable. I highly recommend the XD. It is the best value in the market place.
