Emailed a guy tonite on a gun he has advertised locally via the net. He's about $370 OVER book (asking $600 on a gun that books 230-270) - and it's not a gun likely to be even considered in any ban they might try.

BLUE BOOK DOESN'T TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE OBAMA FACTOR. I WILL CONSIDER ANY REASONABLE OFFER. YOU ARE WELCOME TO CALL MY CELL @ #######.
THANKS FOR LOOKING,#### ####

I was flabbergasted.....

Well the gun, or anything for that matter, is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Either make him what you consider to be a reasonable offer or walk away.

If he is asking too much for it, either someone with more money than brains will buy it or he is stuck with it until he drops his price.

yeah - thing is, I WOULD like to have it as a knock-around. I emailed him back, told him I wasn't paying any Obama tax, and made a one-time cash offer. It's up to him now.

Good point Browningguy - the only reason I asked on it was that I thought it was maybe either a typo or that perhaps there was other stuff with it that he didn't mention (buncha ammo, holsters, etc).
I just didn't know that we needed to add 100% to gun values 'cuz of Obama.....

Lame. I learned my leason with my house, don't buy on panic. You'll find it cheaper locally eventually.

Well....

He is most likely an arse, but this is still America, and in our alleged free market we can charge what ever we want for our property. And, as frustrating as this is, you have the right to not do business with him.

This may seam callous, but I am just as frustrated as you, I can find an AR to save my life, and today I found two... priced at about double their normal prices. If you don't believe me, look at me "gun dealers in NJ thread".

Law

He can charge whatever he wants, but I wouldn't even continue communications if I got a stupid response like that.

BTW... I have a SW M&P 15 + 10 mags for sale... only $7000! (hey, if somebody will pay it, heh!)

Doesn't deserve a response... surprised you wasted your time posting a thread about it, but less surprised that I am still up responding...:)

I have your answer sir.

Tell him that he is correct, and that indeed one must consider the Obama factor.

Now, since Obama is going to push ammunition purchase restrictions, and ammunition taxes, eventually it will be illegal to own pre ban ammo, you have to buy ammo by the round at extremely high prices and even then can only purchase a limited amount. At that point the gun will be virtually useless as anything but a nice paperweight or a decoration on the wall. So you will give him the offer of a lifetime and give him 250 bucks for his now worthless piece of furniture.

Just curious, what is this gun that he wants $600 for? Can't really make a judgement without that bit of info. :D

Why bother him if you aren't interested at his price?
yeah - thing is, I WOULD like to have it as a knock-around.
That's not an answer unless this is the only gun of its kind.

I wouldn't answer the email because I wouldn't have even contacted someone who was asking more than twice the going rate for a gun.

I HAVE to deal with some crazy people because that's the way life is--but I don't go LOOKING for crazy people to interact with.

I fully expect my automobiles to rise in value dramatically too due to the Obama effect. The reason of course will be the Jimmy Carter like runaway inflation caused by government gone mad. :cuss:

Maybe your seller is just way ahead of the curve.

I ran into that one time, except the "threat" was president Johnson. Told the seller, "Thank you, I'll take your gun under consideration." While I was considering I found a much better deal. I never did call the man back, but one day he called me, wondering if I was still interested, as he still had the gun. I told him "no," and "thank you."

If he finds a sucker he'll make some money, but it won't be off you. If he doesn't find a buyer he's stuck.

Given the current economy, I think you'll find plenty of guns in a buyer's market. Just look around. ;)

Ask yourself this question...

If he's right, and Obama's gun ban kills any chance to acquire one of these guns at this price ever again, would you then regret that you had passed it up for $600?

Trick question!

Right now you can get said gun much cheaper from someone who isn't feeding into the frenzy. Don't get me wrong, it's coming for sure. But today we are still able to negotiate offeres :)

Hmmm, I'll share with you what I learned in Junior High. Boys will lie to you if they think it will convince you to give you more than you want to share. They will play on your fears and your emotions. "Obama factor" sounds much like something that boy in Jr High would say all those years ago.
