The part that really burns me.

"Police Chief Steven Fisher tells WWMT-TV that the father, 41-year-old Kevin Dunn, was cleaning the rusty gun. Fisher says it had been in storage for some time and the father had forgotten that there was a round in it."

You got to wonder what's going thought his mind right now. :( Remember, lets be safe out there.

All four rules must be broken simultaneously for someone to be negligently shot.

1. he did not treat the gun as loaded.
2. he obviously pointed it at something he did not want to destroy.
3. he obviously had his finger on the trigger at some point.
4. he was not sure of his target, since he didn't know and/or care what the gun was pointing at when he pulled the trigger.

All four rules broken.

This is why you have your guns out every day. Forgetting about them until they rust breeds stupidity.

#1 KEEP IT POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION! DUH! #2, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE GUN IS UNLOADED, UNLESS YOU INTEND TO SHOOT IT! you dont have to do every one of the 10 comamndements every single time you look at a gun (although it helps!), but you do have to do AT LEAST SOME OF THEM! GESSH! i can not imagine trying to clean a gun , scratch that, i can not even imagine HANDLEING a gun that i hadn't cleared first. it sucks for the boy, and the whole family. the dad is going to beat himself up every day for the rest of his life.
