I got a JC package rifle in 308. One of the first year production rifles. The scope went south on me so I sent it to leupold. They sent me back a new scope with standard crosshairs. To some folks I've just ruined the collector value of the package now that I don't have the original scope BUT it is a factory replacement for a damaged optic. What do you think ship the scoep back and beg for my old one or just shoot it and shut up?

You can still find the old F8 scopes but they are basically the same thing as the new FXII scopes minus the words "steyr scout" on the turret caps. I would ask Leupolds custom shop to make you the correct adjustment covers. They do laser engraving and all that or get your old caps back. They also offer the standard , thicker, and thickest hairs so i would make them give your the correct spec's.

You can have Leupold replace the regular cross hairs with the heavy duplex cross hairs used on the scout scope.

The larger question is the price of the firearm as a package lowered due to the repalcement of the scope? From what I can see there is a $700 differance in price from a plane jane scout and a JC package model.

A Leupold is a Leupold is a Leupold. There's not much of a market on Steyr Scouts any how ,despite what good guns they are. I have the .223/5.56 All black Steyr Scout Tactical/Elite nick named the Cub Scout cause its a .223. Never did like that nick name. Like i said i don't see how Leupold couldn't make you an exact replica of your old scope except the new model name as they offer many different finishes and options in there custom shop. I say they owe you one exactly like you returned.

Here's some specifications on the scope.
"There are no dimensional differences between the Steyr marked scopes furnished on the Steyr Scout Rifle and the standard commercial Leupold marked ones. Other than the Steyr branded knob covers and the thick factory reticle on the Steyr furnished scope they are completely identical."
