.25acp ??

There are so many times I can't conceal my Glock 23 so it gets left home.

I can almost always have my Baretta 950-.25 ready to rock and in my pocket.

The question comes down to is a .25 that is always with you better than being unarmed?

It is not my choice of power but the perp will have a few leaks and will be seeking medical attention weather I win or loose the battle. I prefer it above my .22 as a matter of function and reliability and there are a few fairly potent rounds for the .25

Personally I'll take a 25acp over a 22lr anyday. The 22lr while slightly more powerful just isn't reliable enough for me. The 25 is center fire and will give more reliable ignition. BUT I will take a 32acp over either of them. There are some really cool old 25s around that I would love to buy though. Not necessarily for carry but just to have them and shoot them.

I often carry a Beretta Jetfire .25 as a BUG and trust it to work as advertised. I wouldn't use it as a primary carry gun, but I'm more than comfortable with it in my back pocket ... just in case. You would not want to stand 21 feet away from it and get popped in the chest a few times, I can assure you.

FWIW, I once braced up and shot a Beretta 418 .25 auto at 32 yards and shot a fist sized group. Granted, I was enjoying a nice seated, braced position, and the target was stationary, but that would have been equal to 8 head shots. Any inaccuracy would be on the part of the shooter. I gave my brother a nice Colt 1908 that I had miniature Novak sights put on, and you really CAN see the sights on that .25. It will also nail the chest at 25 yards all the time. Most any larger caliber is better, but few hide as well in guns so small.....

I BOUGHT IT!!! I am now the proud owner of a CZ 1945! It's not my only gun, but I am glad it's ONE of my guns!

Years ago, my boss's 16 year old son was shot with a FMJ .25ACP.
The suspect (his sister's ex-boyfriend) used a Jennings J-25 and shot him in the face at about 15 feet away. Bullet did not penetrate left cheek bone, just slide around his skull under his skin to rest by the base of his left ear.

When I was going through the Riverside Sheriff Academy, we were shown a dash board cam video in which a suspect killed a state trooper with a .22LR NAA Mini-Revolver. Firefight took place within 10 feet.

Apples and oranges.
The face has complex bony structure and it can even deflect bullets of all service calibres, no problem.
The .22 incident was the one with Trooper Mark Coates and IIRC it was an unlucky shot that missed his vest, went into his axilla and got his aorta.

My main reason for saying .25ACP is better than .22 is because of rimfire vs centrefire. If it doesn't go bang, your problems just multiplied!

LoneCoon quote; The .25 has room for improvement. It'd be nice to see some +P type loads for his caliber, as well as decent hollow point ammunition. The round has potential, but no one wants to tap it because .25's are for thugs and poor people, apparently.

It may not be a .25 acp but a .25 cal none the less, and it looks like an improvement. North American Arms is making a .25 NAA round, which is a .32 case necked down to a .25 cal. giving a higher velocity and better balistic's. Any body have one? LM

While the 22/25 are more prone to failures like the head shot above that is also possible with larger calibers. While at Orange County Laser Village I viewed a video of an officer who was shot between the eyes with a 38 special. The round stopped in the tissue covering his brow and knocked him momentarily unconscious. There was also a shooting on the military base where I worked where a Marine was shot with a 380 and the bullet entered his cheek and stopped under the skin on the back of his head, failing to penetrate the skull (luckily). I spoke to a Costa Mesa officer and his friend was shot in upper corner of his vest. He fell to the ground. He got back up and delivered one shot to the head with his P220 that put the guy down permanently. When they recovered the shooters weapon it was a 22lr rifle. Anecdotal evidence is pretty iffy when trying to devine what a certain round will do when it strikes its target.

Ask Lee Harvey Oswald if a 25 auto hurts!

Why? He was shot with a Colt .38 Special.

As to the .25, the little round has always held a strange appeal with me. Perhaps this is the year to pick up one of those nice Colt vest pocket models. Whatever you think of the cartridge, you can't deny that those old Colts and Brownings are really neat little gems.

6.35mm (.25ACP) was good enough for John Moses Browning as a replacement for the .22 LR. Centerfire beats rimfire for reliability. Rimfire is much more affordable for fun plinking, however.

While it wouldn't be my first "go-to" weapon, any firearm that you have with you, is better than one that you left at home because it was too bulky.

Niche caliber for niche purposes, but still as dangerous as the wielder.

One of my best friends was shot three times with a .25 acp. This was an accidental shooting from an old pistol that either slam fired or had a sear issue (not sure). Anyway, all three bullets struck near the inside of his right upper thigh. Two of the bullets entered and exited his thigh. The third entered, turned upward and went up into his small intestines. He had to have surgery to repair some of his small intestines and to have the one lodged bullet removed. While it did not cause massive tissue destruction, he said it hurt like an SOB. When I asked him to describe the pain, he said it felt like something was burning inside his body. Fortunately, the little bullet did not hit any major blood vessels and he made a full recovery. After talking to him, I think it would be a mistake to under estimate this, or any other cartridge.

Too bad JMB didn't design the 25 with a little more case length. If would surely benefit from a bit more powder and velocity.

I Met a guy that praised the little 25. He said it saved his life. Turned out, he did a no-no and his wife shot him with it. The round went through his thigh, causing no severe damage. The gun jammed, saving him from a second shot and gave him enough time to get up, walk across the room, and take the gun away. I thought he was kidding, but he had the hole and the newspaper clipping to prove it

Well I shot the little CZ yesterday. When I got it it was a terrible mess. It was bone dry and rusty. After a little TLC and a trip to the range, it performed like a champ! No hiccups of any kind. After a little research, I found out it's a 1950 year model. I'm diggin this little piece way more than I should:D

Your CZ is a finely engineered handgun. Some of these older .25s are very well made.

The Baby Browning is another fine example of the breed, very reliable with ball ammo. It is MUCH smaller than my Beretta 71 .22LR.

.25 acp launched from a 2" barrel outperforms a .22 LR from a 2" barrel.

All these "the .22 beats the .25" comments stem from the .22 being fired from a 6" or even a rifle barrel. One gun mag article told of the writer shooting at a stump from 10 or 20 yds away with the .25 and the bullets bounced off. He then fired his .22 RIFLE at the stump where the bullets, surprise-surprise, penetrated the stump. This idiot used that apples to kumquats "comparison" to proclaim the .22 outperforms the .25 acp.

JMB came up with the .25 acp because he couldn't get a .22 LR to run reliably in a gun that small. This hasn't changed to any appreciable degree.

The .25 acp can be handloaded to enhance it's abilities, but extremely few would want to do it.

For a new gun purchase, a .32, .380 or even 9mm can be found in nearly the same/size weight range as many .25's.

If a .25 is all you have, I like Mel Tappan's take on it: "The .25 acp improves your odds by 5%, which is better than 0% improvement."

A CZ-DUO 6.35mm is the only pistol my girlfriend has. We both know the pistol isn't much in terms of firepower but it was a free pistol in good shape. It had been floating through her family unused until she claimed it. It was updated with a new set of springs and I left the range with positive impressions after shooting a box of ammo. That little quarter bore can shoot! It is a quality piece of equipment and a sure step up from cowering in the closet with a letter opener.

have my eye on an old CZ that I would like to have for a small concealable weapon while cycling. I've had the P32 and the P3at,
Use one of those, don't get the .25 for now. They will have more stopping power.

will be seeking medical attention weather I win or loose the battle.
What good is that if you lose?

IMO, any pistol caliber fired from 1-2" barrels are going to underperform.
