if a .25acp could penetrate sheetrock I might consider it, since I have seen a .25 acp not penetrate sheetrock, I will take the 22lr for a variety of reasons other than it's "sheer knock down power"

22LR for sheer knockdown power

Haha, that just sounds funny. I realize what was intended when read in context, but still, 22lr in the same sentence with "sheer knockdown power" is hilarious.

We're thinking along the lines of a Beretta 25 cal.
I had a friend with one many years ago, and we'd shoot it a lot. It never jammed. I was so impressed, I bought one in both calibers, i.e., one in .22 short and one in .25 ACP. Both of them jammed constantly. I sold them soon after. It's a gamble.

id take the 22lr , my sister had a 25 once and you couldnt hit anything with it.

and the 22 ammo is alot easyer to find , and alot cheaper.

and more guns to pick from.

Its a common mistake to look at ammo data for .22lr and .25ACP and say ".22 lr is much cheaper and more powerful". The much cheaper part is true for sure, but the more powerfull part is only true because you are looking at .22lr data from a 5" pistol or worse a 16"+ barreled rifle. Fired out of the 2-3" barrel of your typical mouse gun there is no difference worth argueing about. However for self defence the .25ACP auto is about an order of magnitude more likely to feed reliably and at least two orders of magnitude more likely to go boom every time.

It has been said, but I can reference it, that JMB invented the .25ACP round when he couldn't make the .22lr perform reliably in the small "vest pocket" Colt auto.

This question was asked on TFL and I thought the following line was pretty funny so I am borrowing it..."If I am ever shot with a .25 and I find out about it, I am gonna kick someone's butt".

I wouldn't go with either round but if I had to choose I guess the .22

Put the 22 in a short barrel same as 25 and 25 wins . Can't compare my Beretta 950BS to my Ruger MKII . I will say this my 12 year old daugther can shoot rings around the Ruger at 21'. The Ruger heavy barrel and size doesn't fit her well . Little Beretta and SA trigger for her is a winner. She has claimed the Beretta as her first pistol. Can't really carry Ruger as a pocket pistol but Beretta is a champ at that. Today the KT have more power but Beretta still in a class of own.
This only Beretta I own, don't like any of their other pistols..

.25 is lame compared to the venerable .22 for ultra small bore handguns. I read a few articles in law enforcement magazines that stated the .25 is not authorized for back up carry because of the many incidents where it wouldn't reliably penetrate a thick leather jacket. I have had both, and in a shooting/penetration contest using off the shelf (only round available) for the Beretta Jetfire in .25auto, and my PPK in .22 the .22 went thru a 70s vintage car door EVERY time, the .25 only went thru at a dirrect right angle and not allways that. Also, I have had more misfires with the .25 auto probably because of the age of the ammunition than with ANY quality .22. Now I would not carry a .22 with the cheapest WAlmart 550 for 7 dollars bulletpac, but I will in a pinch carry my P22 with an extra mag loaded with hypersonic CCI Blazer or something hot for .22. Another thing about cycling, I have shot probably 5000 rounds thru my P22 and NEVER had a falure to feed.

I voted 25 because thats what i have. I think they are pretty close anyway.

6 of one, half-dozen of the other. The only way to measure them against each other is to take a similar sized gun in each caliber and have a shoot-off.

I'll take the 25 just for the functional reliability.

Anyone got a Sterling or TPH in both calibers? That would make an interesting test.

I voted .25, for reliability. If we're comparing it to the typical .22 pistol though, with a much longer barrel, I'd probably go with the larger .22. Of course, if one's going to carry a larger gun, he might as well go with a larger caliber.
