I'm looking to create a 5" 10mm 1911 but I'm a little lost on what would be a quality barrel and nice and heavy recoil spring. The frame I've got is one tough SOB, so I'm not worried about it being able to hold up to the pressures of 10mm. This will be a carry piece, so reliability, not accuracy so much, will be my primary focus. Also, since I'm young and no slouch in the strength department I'm not too worried about a heavy recoil spring. In summation, I want a reliable barrel and recoil spring for a 1911 and the heaviness of the recoil spring is no issue for me.

Opinions of people like '1911Tuner' and several posts at http://www.pistolsmith.com/viewforum.php?f=39 are well worth reading.

Here's what I did based on what I learned.

A decent frame will not be the failure point. Barrel lug 'fit to frame' is important. So, I sent my frame and slide to Bar-Sto for them to make and custom fit a ramped 10mm match barrel. Cost a bit, but my gun will last.

Personally, I believe a 10mm 1911 is a fantastic carry gun. Enjoy.

Demitrious what frame do you have?

What frame do you have and did you
get any work other than the $175 for
a barrel fitting done? & waht frame is yours?

I would go Fusion or Kart barrel with a 20 or 22lb spring. I ran a 20lb spring in my Para P16 10mm just fine.

I used a Springfield frame. But, the important point is barrel fitting and the slide are what need consideration.

Initially, I had relied on a vendor who must have been drinking his own coolaid. So, I boned up on 10mm gunsmithing a bit, enough to know if someone was blowing smoke. I was so mad after the crap the first vendor did, I asked the president of Bar-Sto to take this on personally. So, my pricing might have been higher than normal.

The gun has a STI slide. I kept it since STI heat treats carbon steel prior to machining. So, I imagine that is a good strong slide.

Bar-Sto milled my frame to accept the ramped barrel that was built after I personally watched them take measurements of my frame and slide.

Bar-Sto is good people.

Para Ordnance P-16 10mm with the 22lb. recoil spring. When you build you get what you want...but the Dan Wesson RazorBack & the C-Bob are some fine 10's for the money $$$.

I had a P16 10mm. Fun guns for sure. I built mine before the P16 10mm craze took over and supply dried up.

I'm ressurecting this thread a bit as I now have my 10mm and have started reloading. I own a used Dan Wesson RZ-10 and I have no idea how many rounds the previous owner had put through it, so I'd like to change the recoil spring. Since I'm running full loads through my gun I've heard a #22 spring is the way to go. I've recently come across the Wilson Combat "Recoil System", is the #18 system any better than just a #22 recoil spring, any thoughts on this? All help is appreciated guys.

I have a Colt Delta Elite I purchased used a couple of years ago that had a Clark barrel installed when I purchased it. I sent the pistol off the Heirloom Precision and got her back about two months ago. Ted commented to me on the fact that he was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Clark barrel.

The pistol is far more accurate than I'll ever be, that's for sure. As for the spring, I'm not sure, but I'd say it's at least a 22 pounder.

I will say that I have an Officer's length slide and barrel from Fusion that look very nice. Fit is excellent, too.
