Help.. What is "The ULTIMATE CCW handgun" (semi-auto)?

I was going to do this as a poll, but this is more open. In California, its tough to get a nice carry-size piece, of consequence. I own a Springfield EMP, and that could just be the answer. Its in a 9mm, but thats fine. It is a great feeling handgun, and sound as can be. Accurate beyond belief. And, re the 9mm, the right ammo, and a little practice as to 'shot placement' and I don't think there is anyone here that wants to be holding the target from behind!

Now....I've been told that the Sig P232 might be the "Cadillac" of concealable guns. Its pretty nice, but its also over $800!!!

(I paid $1100 for my EMP, but hey, it CALLED to me!

) I would L O V E a Ruger LCP, but its a no-no in CA. (DOJ Dummies)! Its like you can have a stainless P232, but not a blued P232!! :banghead: !!?? (***?)

So, what is YOUR opinion for the best concealable (CCW) carry pistol? I have a Sig P226, but to me it is just too big to enjoy carrying, even with my Miami Classic, let alone any belt or IWB holster. (I actually have a Haugen speed scabbard, belt and mag holder ordered-maybe THAT will make a difference?)

So, I guess I want something mechanically well engineered, compact and powerful enough to REALLY be considered a SD weapon, that is easy and comfortable to conceal.

I would not look further if I had an EMP. But 1. I've never found one and 2. I couldn't afford it if I did. So long as you can shoot it well I'd buy ammo and practise. Spend money on a good holster and belt combo and go with the EMP.

It's probably no secret around here that my vote goes to the HK P7.

Best Concealable

I have a Colt New Agent .45 acp and a Walther PPS in 9mm. Both are excellent for deep concealed carry. Very small and easy to conceal.

Both are accurate and reliable.

(BTW, Colt produced the first 3" 1911 with the Colt Defender, so all the others are just -- copies.)

For self defense I wouldn't consider anything less than 9mm.

.380 is just not adequate unless it's a bug.

The EMP looks great. I have an M&P 9mm compact, that would be a fine carry piece, if only I didn't live in the PRK and could actally carry.

Nothing is "ultimate".

If you like the trigger on your P226, buy a Sig P6 or P225. It's narrower, but still big enough to shoot well.

I was actually looking at the 226, but I liked the 228 better because of the 3.9" barrel and smaller size. It's not much smaller, but still smaller than a 226. The only reason I like the p228 over the almost-identical 225 is that it has a higher magazine capacity. Of course it's slightly taller, but at the same price I'd take an extra fraction of an inch for being able to hold a few more rounds.

Pricewise, the Sig P6 is fairly inexpensive if you get an old west german police trade-in. They run between $300 and $400, but the 2.5" barrel (the size of the ones I looked at, I think) is the only dislike I have of them. Still, for concealed carry, it seems pretty good at half the price of a 225 or 228.

I would think that the "ultimate" would have to be something you could conceal any time, sadly you simply cannot always carry a full size 1911. So, I'm thinking something that fits in a pocket, and since you're in California, I would recommend the seecamp .380 pocket pistol with the manual safety.

The P225/P6 has the same barrel length as a P228/P229. The only dimensional difference between the two is the width of both the grip frame and the slide, the P228 is fatter.

BUDS has the 232 for $525 delivered. Gotta tell ya, I have one, my best freind has one. We have tryed many a "SD" situation where the gun may/could fail, never has.Easy to shoot and hit with, also, easy to carry. In a world where only "hits" count a 380 cal. works fine
