I use the sizing die with ear and eye protection. I've never had one detonate.

The "search" function...

is your friend.

J Bates 01, welcome to THR. Please try the "Search" function at the top of the page--you will find a number of threads discussing this very thing.

Just click on "Search," type in "deprime live primers" or whatever you want to search for, click on "go," and sit back and watch the results roll in.

Would it be dangerous to put a primer in an empty .38 special round, put it in my revolver and shoot it?

I wanted to see what they did/sounded like without any powder.

When I was younger my grandfather would cut open shotgun shells and dump everything out, then let me shoot them out of a flare gun, it was very loud, comparable to a pistol primer?

No, not dangerous.

But be aware the cylinder probably will not turn after you do it.

The pressure in the primer cup causes the primer to back out tightly against the recoil shield.

Without any pressure in the chamber to reseat the case on it, it stays backed out.

Oh heck!

I thought maybe some WD-40 would slick up the primer until his revolver didn't lock up from shooting primers in it! :D
