Good kimber for carry.

Honestly, I'm surprised Kimber didn't engrave "Gimmick" on the slide of the SIS gun.

I've held one, and while it does have a few nice features, I'm not going to pay an extra grand just to feel like I'm one of the cool kids.

my everyday carry pistol is a kimber pro carry2

i have a belt carry rig that has a skin gaurd, so i can wear it under my shirt and it doesnt actually touch me.

ti be honest, it didnt start out pefectly reliable. the pistol was incredibly tight. you can shake it as hard as you can, even now after 6-7 years, and absolutely no rattle.

its very reliable now, in fact, im pretty sure it has not hiccuped in its last 1000 rounds.

its very light. if i remember right its 28 ounces, or about 60% the weight my colt gov. model was.

i carry it every single time i go anywhere. and i do mean every single time even if i just run up to town for a coke, its on.

THANK YOU!! You guys are great. So much information! It really helps getting first hand information. I really just need to decide between the ultra carry and the pro carry. Hmmmmm...... Decisions Decisions :p

my dad has 2 non full size kimbers, they are the kimber covert pro, and the pro tle. they are both great, reliable, 1911's. they have seen many many rds through each of them and i have shot them both. i personally like the covert the best great size both overall lenght but also weight too for carry. i am not a fan of laser grips though so i would probally go a different less expensive route if i wanted an aluminum framed 1911, ie the tactical pro. but you can't go wrong with any of the,m. the pro tle is nice but it has a little more weight to it than the aluminum frames, it is really all up to what you want. dad's pro tle has seen little action since he got the covert which is his new carry gun, which he shoots and trains the most with now.

Kimber makes a 4" barrel, with an officers frame, that is ideal for carry. Can't remember the model, however.
I used to carry a series I. If I sat down wrong my butt would get pinched between the muzzle end of the holster and the seat. Didn't hurt, just really annoying.

I moved on to a 5" gun, also a series I. It doesn't pinch my butt and conceals pretty well on my skinny frame (6ft, 155lbs).

Kimber Ultra CDP II in 45 - 700ish rounds so far without a hiccup (went straight to the Wilson magazines as reccomended here). While not as accurate as my full size Colt 1911 (never expected it to be) - it shoots great and is fun to shoot (everybody wants to shoot it when out with friends). Primary "non heat of summer" carry gun in a UBG IWB holster - I put the black rubber Kimber grips on for carry - I like the feel of them a little better. Very pleased with the whole setup for CCW.

Ammo update after "exdetsgt" post below;
Mine has had all reloads through it. Only issue was if not taper crimped enough - they wouldn't chamber completely. Got that dialed in and no problems feeding it 230 RN plated for practice and the carrry bullet of 185gr Sierra HP.

Bought at Walmart a 50 round Winchester white box "personal Protection" hollow points. They might work just fine in some other 1911, but not in my Ultra Carry II. The bullet is slightly longer than any of my other ammo (flat-nosed lead reloads, factory FMJ round nose, lead round nose, military issue ammo, and several different kinds of HP). None of these different kinds of ammo have a bullet that long. Plus the hollow point Winchesters have crimping around the opening.

I'm like 02bfishn with 700 trouble-free rounds through it. No trouble until now.

Solution: No more Winchester white box hollow points.

The cdp is a nice family of kimber ass they are lighter, have night sights, checkering, ambi safety and are dehorned for snag free carry.

Love my Kimber Pro CarryII..goes bang every time, hits what I'm aiming at...It works great for me, 'cause I don't care for shiny"pretty boy" guns...just the "tactical" in me I suppose...Not to mention that it is a few hundred less than a lot of the others..Nothing against any of 'em, or their owners...to each his own...I carry it in the south, and I clean it regularly, and have had no problems...Can't go wrong with any of the Kimber lineup. Good luck...

My old man got the Kimber Pro TLE II (LG) - the LG suffix for the factory-installed Crimson Trace Lasergrips.

Apart from the finish, it's all but identical to the gun pictured here:

http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/compactprocarry/stainless_pro_carry_II_LG/

He has to shoot it more to be sure, but from his intial impressions, he likes it enough that he's at least considering using it as his primary carry gun.

That may not sound like high praise on its face, but I would be hard-pressed to overstate his love for his primary carry gun for the last decade or so - his HK USP 45 Compact.

My personal choice is the full size. (Raptor):D

As stated above, most are fantastic, but there are some POS out there,
as with any other MFG.

But.....you can most generally work out the problem, and then you have a great KIMBER!;)
