These are some photos I took this weekend of the presidencia (courthouse/police station) in Suchil, Durango which isn´t far from where I´m staying.
It was attacked Frebruary of this year with grenades and automatic small arms. My fiancee says it was perpetrated by the Zetas.
Miraculously no one was killed.
Looks like the police where pinned inside by crossfire from three directions. I looked for bullet holes on the oposite buildings from return fire from the police but couldn´t find any. Must have been terrifying.
This place made my hair stand up.
The local police in another town were friendly enough to let me photograph them with their sidearms out for a closer look. I didn´t ask but I believe local cops have to purchase their sidearms or barrow one in the meantime. Berettas 92s and S&Ws against grenades and assault rifles.
Good on them for doing what they can with what they have.
Of course everyone else and me are simply out of luck. I can´t wait to get home to the USA! Stay safe.
